Guest Syvwlch Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 This happens regularly, and is easy to fix. Don't worry. :) Re-running the update from the start will fix the phone. Be careful to make sure that ActiveSync is NOT running while you are doing this, as it can prevent the update program from talking to the phone. To turn ActiveSync completely off, open the Task Manager on your PC, and in the Process List view, select the WCESCOMM process. Stop it. Wave your mouse over the ActiveSync icon at the bottom right of the screen, it should disappear. Once this is done, start the update again and follow the instructions. Should work fine this time.
Guest Megalos Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 dear Syvwlch many thanks first of all but .... where is the Task Manager ? I am using the XP profesionnal and realy I am trying to find it with no success ! Pls help again
Guest pete1312 Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Right click on the task bar at the bottom of your screen.
Guest Megalos Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 pete1312 thanks a lot for your reply I had find it already, but althought I do what Syvwlch say the phone is always with the Canary colours screen only and the PC shows that the upgrade says waiting that the programmes take informations from your SPV and NOTHING is happening for hours ?? with our without the MMC the same ( I close all the PC because otherwise the upgrade is not stopping ?) please any idea ? Are the antivirus McAfee etc that I have making problems to the upgrade?
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Let's see if I understand this correctly : 1. You killed WCESCOMM. 2. You started the update program again. 3. The program fails to update the phone, always at the same place? Is that right?
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 And now, after the infamous Danish threads... The French thread! Bon, Megalos, mon vieux... Re-explique moi calmement le problème en Français, si tu veux bien. Tu vas voir, c'est pas sorcier.
Guest Megalos Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 yes my friend I find the WCESCOMM and '' end prosses '' of it started the update programm again having the SPV in cradle with the Canary screen on it the programm start and show only the very small screen saying that it is getting information from the spv to start the upgrade and stay there without dowing nothing else Help pleaseeeeeeeeee
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 The French thread! Not to be confused with French bread, of course. Or Danish post-ry.
Guest Megalos Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Hello everybody help   help from Frenchs but also for international community nothing happen also when closing the anti-virus and others programms in the task bar :!: pls help
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Megalos, Still here. Looking at the old posts on the update to see if anyone has had this before. Is there a big rush? This will take a little time.
Guest Richie M Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Megalos - Guess it would be easier if could speak Greek, sorry - only thing i can say is take the battery out for 30 seconds and reconnect the phone and try again :)
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 15, 2003 Report Posted March 15, 2003 Oh, forgot one. Sometimes the update refuses to work until you reboot the PC. Can you try this?
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Any luck, Megalos? Does 1. Rebooting PC, 2. killing WCESCOMM, and 3. rerunning the update solve the problem?
Guest Megalos Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 dear Syvwlch an other friends I am trying from yesterday night and today morning many ways to do the upgrade to work but nothing is happening I reboot the PC, a kill the WCESCOMM and when I try to rerun the update, the only that happen is that it says ''Crad.... already excist overwrite, I say''YEs to all '' And after is STICKS to the screen'' taking information from the phone'' I have re-dowloaded the upgrade and runned it from there, again the same. When I open the phone (bytheway I left the MMC insight of it ) It says Card fond I put it in the cardle and live it untill the Canary three colors appear ? Trying them to start the uprade it STICKS on the informations screen PLS HELPPPPPPPP I am ready to get stroke (at my age )
Guest Megalos Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Also 1) have someone the old version sw anywhere to dowload or zip and send ? 2) how the back-up can be done in the old version and in the new one? note : When the tragedy happen , at the moment the upgrade has begining the PC asked again to put the hardware of the USB and I proceed to the hardware USB installation ? Dose that provoque any damage ? :?:
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 there should be no damage to the phone with what you have done, but yes, you should have ignored the USB installation request from Windows during installation. Perhaps the USB Hardware Found wizard of Windows leaves something behind which is interfearing with the connection to the phone? One of the Mods had this happen to them... and tried on another PC, on which the update worked fine. If you have access to another PC, I strongly recommend you try it there. If not, can you go to Control Panel> System> Device Manager or Control Panel> System> Hardware> Device Manager, and look at what devices exist under USB? Perhaps we can uninstall something there, and free up the link to the phone?
Guest Megalos Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Syvwlch thanks again I have done what you proposed and fund that : 1) In USB controllers there aree THREE times the line SiS 7001 PCi to USB open Host Controller and THREE times the line USB Root Hub 2) The is also a line with [-] negative point and question mark :?: other Devices with one line with question mark :?: IrBridge Kernel-Level Interface and another line :?: USB Controller That is all I could find :?
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Wow! Your USB is seriously messed up. Which explains why you can't do the update properly, I assume. I'm not an expert on fixing such things. we need to get some help from people who are. I know you can delete most things from the device manager, and they tend to reappear, fixed, at the next boot, but this isn't always the case, and can make things worse. If it was my PC, i'd mess with it, because if worse came to worse, I'd reinstall the OS, but I don't think you want to do that! Can anyone help on this? I'm out of my depth, here.
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Again, tho, to quickly fix the phone, try the update on another PC, with WCESCOMM killed and ignoring any messages about USB devices found.
Guest Megalos Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Syvwlch Will try to do that on another PC and will inform you see you latter (alegators) :)
Guest Megalos Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 :(  Syvwlch MANY THANKS :) :D My SPV is ALIVE :( I have been to a friend, having also the SPV , and we make like you suggested the upgrade (before that he made unistall the IPSM ?) and everething went fine  Vive la France ;) Now back at home the SPV in the cradle asked again for the CD to insert the USB (this time a prefered the version 1.01 and in the devise manager there is a new line for USB CE separetely -maybe the first time that I chose the version 1.02 was wrongh ? and without removing the Activesyn, the SPV made synchronisation contacts etc very well :!: Should I live now everything (devise manager USB, etc) like it is due that it is working :?: Many thanks again
Guest Megalos Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Guys my question concerning the back-up for the new version is still without answer :D Does anybody knowing the answer :?: And if the old version is anywhere, could anybody inform pls :) Syvwlch . my friend, do you know about that ;)
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 I'm happy for you that the phone is working again! :) If it works, no need to fix it, leave it like it is. As for backup... it is a complicated process, especially after the update. There is an article that deals with the way to do it, BEFORE the update : http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=2628 After the update, you will need to use a program called USBTerm on your PC, that will give you some control of the phone thru the USB link. Here is a link to a site that explains this very well... in French ;) http://www.smartphone.fr.fm/ Lastly, unless you have made extensive modifications to the phone's settings, you can probably live without a back-up. It might be simpler to restore the changes by hand after the rare hard resets you will need to do, rather than go thru the sh*t involved in doing a backup now. Oh, and one last thing... if you planning to de-cert the phone, do that now, since it requires a hard reset, before you start playing with the settings. There, read up on USBTerm (search for it on the forum) http://www.modaco.com/search.ph...hp?mode=results and decide if you want to try this. Have fun with the phone!
Guest Megalos Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 dear Syvwlch ;) many thanks again I would like to ask you about your reminder concerning the de-cert of the phone :!: What that means :?: And how I will do the de-cert and the hard reset :? I cannot make settings without doing the de-cert ? thanks again a lot for all you have done for me :)
