My SPV for no apparent reason always locks up after starting up. When I turn it on I get the sunset followed by the smartphone 2002 screen but when my homescreen appears the phone is total locked up, no buttons work at all, the key lights and screen light stay on, the only way to turn it off is take the battery out.

I phoned O, who sent me a new phone out and it is doing exactly the same thing with the new phone, I know my SIM card is ok cos I tested it in another phone...

I am now waiting for O's techs to call me back...

Anyone have a clue??

It sounds like it could be a sim problem, because it’s unlikely that you would get two SPV’s with the same fault in succession. A replacement sim might sort the problem out. It may be the your sim profile is incorrect for the handset, you need a profile 10 sim or above to run in the SPV, if it’s the one the phone came with then it SHOULD be the right one.

I know these sounds stupid but check anyway, your key pad isn’t locked is it? If it’s not have you tried a hard reboot?

Wow that’s not good, I guess you have just had two with the same fault, if your problem was sent to Tech Support, (the real ones btw do not work on the phones) it could be a few days, my advice is don’t wait for Orange to get back to you, give it a day or two (they should have it resolved within 48 hours) and then call them back, just to make sure it is being looked into. It seems fairly obvious that you need a new handset but because you have had the same fault in such a short space of time they have to look into it a little deeper.

Basically they shouldn’t be sending out refurbished phones that have a fault, there is no excuse for it, before any phone is sent out as a replacement they are supposed to check them for faults…

I've got a similar problem - Turn on the phone and the phone is locked, if I press the record button on the side the phone becomes active again. This means I cant do a hard reset as the joystic button inactive. Anyone have any ideas?

Jonwood - what have you got set as your homescreen theme? One of the default ones or a custom one that you have either downloaded or written yourself? If it's a custom one, it may be this that is causing the problem.

Just a thought......

nr2000: Are you able to get into the bootloader screen at start up by holding the record button whilst powering on the phone? If so, you might find that you *can* access the canary options and choose to do a hard reset - it just takes a few attempts to get the timing right and it can be quite tricky to do! If your keyboard works fine normally (once you have managed to get the phone to respond by pressing the record button) then I can think of no reason why it should not work in the Canary bootloader as this software is very minimal and there is very little chance of it crashing in here- no registry is used and no windows is loaded at all at this point.
