Guest lisann Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 I got my new spv last week... and have downloaded a couple of games to my pc... (snail) when I try to install them to the phone, all I ever get is... "Unable to retrieve mobile information. Please re-connect and try again" over the add/remove programs feature. I have tried everything but nothing will work. The phone syncs fine with the pc, but this just wont work? anyone help before I pull me hair out!!!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Have you had any failed installs? Possibly tried to install a PocketPC app? If so go to IPSMWindowsAppMgr and remove the folders for the failed installs only. See if that helps.
Guest lisann Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 I havn't been able to install anything, full stop! there isnt anything in appmgr. "Sniff"
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Bear in mind you have to view that folder with a phone based file explorer. Also have you tried extracting the .cab (with Winzip or similar) and running it directly on your phone?
Guest lisann Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 okay now you really have lost me :( sorry... am such a clueless git. I aint to good at stuff like this  can you expand on that a little? Thanks for your help :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Sorry hehe. Did the file you downloaded have a .cab or .exe file extension ("Winzip file" or "Application")?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Welcome to the site :) Right the AppMgr folder is only viewable with a file explorer on the phone not via Activsync but you cannot do that as you say you have not installed anything on the phone. But the problem sounds like it could be that Activsync is not seeing the phone properly :? Is it working correctly? The last resort is to delete the AppMgr folder or try a hard reset.
Guest lisann Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Hmmm.... the activesync seems to be working fine otherwise. It's just the add/remove programs. For some reason it doesnt seem to be recognising the phone. could it have something to do with the options I have choosen in the activesync program? I unticked the calendar, tasks etc boxes because myself and my parnter both have the phone, and it was just copying all our contacts and remindars on to each others phones everytime we connected one of our phones to the pc... Does that make any sense?! he he By the way I havnt unlocked the phone either, can this make a difference?
Guest lisann Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 okay.... I carried out a hard reset... (and very nearly shat myself i might add!) and it hasnt made an ounce of difference. I am now at my whits end. Its not even letting me restore my backup on orange now! HELP!!! Is this phone really worth it???
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 If it's made no differance the problem must be with Activsync so the best thing to do is to uninstallreinstall it. The problem with Orange backup I cannot help you there as I have never done it, sorry :)
Guest lisann Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Did what you said with the activsync, and it still hasnt remedied it :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 Do you have the cradle disconnected when you installed Activsync? because it has to be. Apart from that I have no other ideas at the moment :? Anyone else?
Guest lisann Posted May 19, 2003 Report Posted May 19, 2003 yup it was disconnected. Even tried a different data cable (I Have two) It's really odd how I can do everything else with the sync and cable normally... But not add/remove programs, which is a real pain in the ass, esp as I have shelled out for a game, but cant get it on. Many thanks for all your help anyway, tis much appreciated :)
