mov Software is pleased to announce the newest release of imov Messenger for the Microsoft Smartphone. This release brings updated features and lower memory requirements.

Existing users of the software should visit http://www.movsoftware.com/imov/latestvers...sionrequest.htm to request the latest version.

New users should visit http://www.movsoftware.com/products/imov/s.../smartphone.htm for more information about imov Messenger.

What is imov Messenger?

imov Messenger is a Windows CE client for the Jabber instant messaging system. The Jabber platform is expected to be the dominant instant messaging system in the near future.

imov Messenger is based on open standards and is fully interoperable with proprietary instant messaging systems as well as the open Jabber server platform.

What does imov Messenger offer me?

imov Messenger gives you the ability to instantly communicate with family and friends using the Internet. The Jabber platform's extensibility allows imov Messenger to be compatible with multiple messaging systems. imov Messenger also provides significant enhancements over proprietary systems, including the ability to send messages to offline users (the user will receive the messages the next time they connect) and compose and send messages even when you are offline (messages will be automatically sent when a network connection becomes available)!

ok, having filled in the form requesting an updated version i just got an email telling me that they have no record of me having purchased this in the first place and to reply if i believe otherwise. Am i wrong in thinking that this is an upgraded msn messenger or should i reply and tell them that 40000 SPV users all got messenger with their phone?

Did you have fun chatting with yourself there

iMov is a completely different application to the MSN Messenger on the phone. It's pretty decent at what it does though :)

I'll have a look next week but why do you think its expected to be the dominant instant messaging system.

I purchased it ... hope I still have the e-mail about the buy ... oh well. I guess I'll try and fill out the form again!

I coulodn't live without iMov!! ICQ, MSN, AIM, YAHOO all in one on my smartphone. AND seeing it uses jabber severs, there is a free desktop version as well!

Very nifty indeed...

Good question! Here are the arguments for this:

The Jabber system is based on a standardized open extensible protocol. There is also support for legacy IM systems (MSN, Yahoo! etc) and can be extended to include new systems if needed (SMS, IRC, VoIP, etc). In addition there is an several server implementation available which makes it cost effective for companies to deploy their own IM systems internally without relying on a third party to provide services.

Additionally, Jabber supports strong encryption and authentication which is a big plus for us IM users!

If anyone has any questions or problems with the imov software please email [email protected]. There is a users guide available at http://www.movsoftware.com as well.
