Guest bit slow Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 hi i have now truied to put the 'doom' download from 'monolithix' site yet to no avail??? so what am i doing wrong? it always seems to ask for the 'wad1' file???and that it should be in the same folder as the doom.exe. please could someone give me a step by step guide to completeing this  it says its a zip file but i've tried unziping and it still doesn't get me any where? the phone is de-certed many thanks in advance andy
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 For some reason mono's site does not contain the wad file :? not sure why but then again I've never asked  For the full version that gives you everything you need go to mboden's site. http://www.bodenhoff.com/spv/doom.html
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 Also, when you do get the wad file, it goes in a subfolder to the exe, not the actual folder, as the instructions tell ya!
Guest bit slow Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 many thanks for advice will let know tomorow, as home time from work is very important.. :)
Guest fozzie Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 The sub-directory with the .wad file in it should be called DoomSPV.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 If you download from mboden's site, the file when unzipped is all laid out for you :) just copy the unzipped folder to the phone and copy a shortcut of the doom file to IPSMWindowsStart MenuGames
Guest fozzie Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 True - although if you skim read the instructions on his site (now who would do that?!) I think it's easy to misread that the doom1.wad should be in the same directory as the DoomSPV.exe :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 I wish people would email me telling me when i miss stuff like that! I'll update it now.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 Sorry m8 I thought you knew and had a reason for it
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 Yeah, turns out the EXP download on MBodens site only contains the .exe, i foolishly didnt think to check the zip files content before upping it hehe. The full zip file (with .wad) is uploading now.
Guest Gorskar Posted May 21, 2003 Report Posted May 21, 2003 Is it just me, or is there only the first episode included with Doom?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 It's the shareware version not the full retail as the shareware source code has only been released as far as I'm aware
Guest SanPabalo Posted May 28, 2003 Report Posted May 28, 2003  Good news - I havn't had a chance to check that this applies to the SPV version of doom but with the PC and the Xbox conversion to get the other episodes (or on the xbox even play Doom 2) you just need to place the relevent wad file in the DoomSPV directory. Of course this requires you to have the orriginal software that I don't think is freeware yet. Oh while I'm here - can anybody please give me a run down of the keys used in Doom SPV - I am having terrible trouble navigating through menu's and quiting. Still I'm quite happy to have doom running only 2 days after buying the phone Woo Hoo
Guest vijay555 Posted May 28, 2003 Report Posted May 28, 2003 The site says * = Shoot # = Use (and answering y when quitting) 3 = Escape V

Guest SanPabalo Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 Thanks for the keys  sorry for the n00bish advice about the wads :D i was hopeful, i may try to find a solution but seeing as the game is almost unplayable i may not bother
Guest cous101 Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Hey guys thcko of the year award could be picked up here!! Just picked up my SPV and tried to download Doom. Followed the instructions by extracting the data, copy the folder to my media card and then creating a shortcut to games folder on the phone. There is now a folder entry on the phone saying 'Shortcut to Domm SPV', but when I click on it says "Can't find 'Doom SPV" (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.' What AM I doing wrong?? Please help
Guest JoelRae Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Can you run doom directly using an explorer program?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Make sure you have a folder called DoomSPV (note no space between Doom and SPV) on your storage card this folder should contain the Doom .exe file and another folder called DoomSPV. Inside this second folder should be the Doom1.wad file. I presume you know about creating short cuts as you have mentioned it. Hope this helps.
