Guest johnnyt Posted December 6, 2002 Report Posted December 6, 2002 If i press the power button on the side I get a menu. Option 4 is RADIO OFF......... Whats that all about then!?!?
Guest Ringo_Mountbatten Posted December 6, 2002 Report Posted December 6, 2002 is it to do with the hands free kit? i don't know, it certainly doesn't act as a radio for me...in fact it doesnt do anything!
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 6, 2002 Report Posted December 6, 2002 'Radio Off' is like 'Flight Mode' on the 9210. It turns off the phone side of the SPV (also know as the 'radio'). P
Guest Michael Eyres Posted December 7, 2002 Report Posted December 7, 2002 Radio off is as Paul said... It allows all functions except the Radio signal of the phone. i.e. No calls in or out. You could have this off in a Hospital or Plane for examle, but I bet they staff will insist you turn the phone off as they will not be up to speed with the concept. HOWEVER... When I got my SPV from the link two weeks agao they told me it was a radio for listeni to music !!. I turned it off in error and for the first two days I could not use the phone for calls. I contacted Orange many times and these kept sending me sim updates to fix the problem. Of course with Radio off I didn't even receive the SIm updates... Eventually I got someone in Orange who told me the soltion, turn Radiio back on, Option 4 and I then was online ! Very frustrating Orange and link didn't know what the phone did !!
Guest DancingMatt Posted December 7, 2002 Report Posted December 7, 2002 Orange have this deal where you can buy a phone now and have the contract begin up to 31 days later, as a Christmas present etc. I need to have a complaint resolved with my current network before I port over to Orange. So I'm wondering, could I buy an SPV (if I can find one!!), defer the date my contract starts to later - but still use the non-phone features of the SPV now? So I can still use the media player etc. I'm thinking the Radio Off option might allow this... Or does it check for an activated valid SIM when you turn it on anyway? Might I need to ask an Orange user to put their SIM in, switch it on and turn off the Radio, then when I turn it on later it'll ignore the SIM? Anyone know or willing to try theirs to see what it does without a SIM? Thanks, DM

Thanks, DM Its possible to use the phone without sim card inserted but as you guessed you will have to have an orange sim inserted and switch the radio off first.
