Guest benjymous Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Here's a quick little app I knocked together in the afternoon (as I was bored, and getting fed up trying to make my ident server work, but anyway..) Speaking Clock This is a simple app knocked together in an afternoon. When run, your phone will read out the time time (with a posh female British accent!). To install, just unzip it, copy the clock folder to your storage card, and create a shortcut from the SpeakingClock.exe file to your start menu. Note that in this current version, the sounds have to be in Storage Cardclock else it won't find them (if the clock just makes beeping noises, then that's why) Note: this will only work on an un-certified phone. If you want to modify this to use a different voice, just replace the wav files with your own (it should be fairly straightforward to work out what sounds are needed) History: [*] 1.0 - first release (16/3/03) [*] 1.1 - fixed bug that made it say "9" rather than "19" (16/3/03) [*] 1.2 - now properly handles timezones (17/3/03) (also I'd be greatful if anyone can tell me why PlaySound refuses to pick up sounds in the current directory of the exe, forcing me to hard code paths) There's also an alternate female american voice available to download on my site, now :)clock12.zip
Guest PsychoDave Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 I can't help with the play sound thing but you gotta call your chilli Randy Travis :)
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Is your site down? The link is dead, and so is the one in your Sig, hauser... :)
Guest benjymous Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Yeah, the site's working fine for me, too I'll upload the zip here, in case anyone else is having problems
Guest Richie M Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Nice one m8, if you assign it to a "Speed-Dial" you get the time told to you at a press of a button :) NICE ;)
Guest Simon Desser Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Nice one! that's dead clever! However, when I tried it at 8.19 the voice said it was "8,9" not 19? 8.18 and 8.20 were ok, any ideas? Thanks Simon.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 Set to speed dial :) And you were bored? What else have you got in the pipeline when you're not bored??? Cheers

Cheers My main smartphone project is SPirc - an irc client, but sadly it doesn't actually work on the phone properly yet (only on the emulator, or on a phone using a piggy-backed internet connection from the PC)
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 16, 2003 Report Posted March 16, 2003 This is great stuff! I can't wait to surprise the blokes at work with this... :)
Guest mik_an Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 Very nice app, but for those not living in the UK it seems to be 1 hour slow, i mean if its 12 o'clock it will say eleven. This is at least how it behave in DK on my phone, anybody else seen this ?.

I'll look into this when I get home
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 Hmm fun, want me to add it to my site benjymous? :)

Guest midnight Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 *Updated* and to compliment the 'fembot' keypad speech, here is the 'fembot' wavs for the clock... Unzip and replace the current Wav's with these new ones :)fembot_clock.zip
Guest benjymous Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 and to compliment the 'fembot' keypad speech, here is the 'fembot' wavs for the clock... Hehe, nice. Reminds me of the computer voice from Command and Conquer. Though you've forgotten to run your filter on the 0..9 wavs :?
Guest midnight Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 ooops, yeh, forgot to replace your wavs for 0-9 when i was creating the keypad voices, fixed and uploaded
Guest Geniarse Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 All I get is 4 very loud beeps!!! Any ideas?
Guest Geniarse Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 Ignore I was being a spanner! I didn't read the post carefully...
Guest benjymous Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 Ok, I've fixed the timezone issue now, so it should tell you your local time, rather than the time in GMT :)
Guest mik_an Posted March 17, 2003 Report Posted March 17, 2003 Great now i won't have to be late  Now that you done this, have you considered to make a version that speak 24 hour timeformat, if you know what i mean. Don't know if it's just us Danes who use this but i thought it shouldn't be to hard to do ??.
