Guest clivewilliams Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Anyone else seen this? My Orange Bill has turned up for the past 3 months with silly amounts of GPRS data being used - 92MB this month, 120MB (I think) last, about 27MB (I think) the month before that. I talked to Orange services last month - there seems to be a lot of traffic going on to orange.net, on the hour, every hour. They seemed to reckon it was a rogue report from their tracking system, but didn't get back to me - I'll guess I need to keep chasing them until they do now. It's not a problem now, since I'm on the SPV unlimited GPRS pack, but when the unlimited data pack finishes, I'll be facing horrible bills from Orange each month. I'll document progress on this thread until I get a satisfactory answer, because I'm probably going to need to refer back to it when they start billing me fully... so... here goes: Phoned Orange Data Services helpline (156, option 1), 22/5/03, 18.10 (18.20 before I got put through!) - talked to Michaela on their first line "help desk". I wouldn't normally quote names here, but they couldn't even give me a call reference, much less help on the issue - so in the absence of a call reference, that's all I've got to act as a reference to my call. Supposedly, a supervisor from their billing department will call me back. Let's see how long it takes them to respond. Unless, of course, anyone out there has seen this before and has a resolution or idea who I should talk to in Orange. Cheers, Clive
Guest clivewilliams Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Well, how about that - they *did* reply ( at 18.48 ). Spoke to Jane Red, supervisor in billing area (sorry, no call reference *again*, hence name) - it seems heavy downloads stopped on 8th May (but still show up in this bill because it covers the period to 15th May) About this time I tweaked my Email settings to no longer download email automatically (from microsoft exchange, over IMAP)... though i suspect the crucial setting was to set imap to download last day/3 days/whatever, rather than all messages as i think i had it (ever since i applied uk update/whatever, that reset the phone's settings - i hadn't checked on this setting since i reset). My work exchange mbox is quite big (50MB approx) So... I shouldn't see it next month (I hope!) - will post back here if i do! For the record, Jane has put a note on my account to say we've discussed this issue so i have some recourse if the problem does keep recurring. Cheers, Clive
