Guest ClintEastman Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 After our exclusive screenshots and information it seems we weren't the only ones to get hold of a copy of MSN Messenger 6. WiNBETA grabbed a copy and Mess.be have kindly given us a download link. The original source seems to be a little known chinese site. As we noted yesterday the only thing that doesn't work in this new build are the games. Unlike the Messenger 5 beta last year which we covered this Messenger signs in correctly and works a treat. Enjoy. www.neowin.net
Guest Mr_Protozoa Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Hummm..... Code update in progress... What's it all about then? MSNM6? Download? Info?
Guest asif @ planus Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 hmm.. I downloaded MSN messenger 5 the other week, and its got a new interface etc - surely they havent released v6 already? Asif
Guest Mr_Protozoa Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 I've managed to get the Beta version by going to the index of the website. If much prettier than 5 - more custom stuff. Lots of random stuff I'd never use too. Alas it's incompatable with the 'Plus!' pack I had with version 5. I'll use it for a bit - see what happens. EDIT: Damnit! the adverts are back now!
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 So everyone has seen the previous screenshots and most people will have downloaded and installed it and are playing about with it at the moment. But what is to come? Thanks to Betaz we've discovered the exact things that will be uncovered in the Launch Site button. It seems they are only working for some at the moment but could be fully functional very soon. The most interesting of features is the File Sharing part. Users can now easily share files and the other users have the chance to download these or not. For the games, we have Checkers coming soon as well as Solitaire Showdown, Bejeweled and Minesweeper Flags. The ones that work at the moment are Decision Wheel and Tic Tac Toe. Users can easily interact and play these games without having to worry about firewall problems. The games are stored on MSN servers and use ActiveX controls to function. We look forward to using all these games in the up and coming MSN Messenger client but for now take a sneak peak at some of the games below. New Emoticons Discovered (||) = Chopsticks (yn) = Finger Cross (xx) = Xbox (tu) = Turtoise (st) = Storm (pl) = Plate (li) = Thunder Storm (h5) = Clapping (ci) = Smoking (brb) = BRB Launch Site Features File Sharing Decision Wheel Tic Tac Toe

Guest ClintEastman Posted May 25, 2003 Report Posted May 25, 2003 A very big thanks to dlorenzo for this great news. You want to play games and you're not in a country that is currently supported? Fear no more... Close MSN Messenger 6. Open Explorer. Open the following location: C:Documents and Settings%username%Application DataMicrosoftMSN Messenger(your email address) Open the file ConfigCache.xml in Notepad and find this line: http://appdirectory.messenger.msn-int.com/...ry.aspx?L=en-uk Change it to: http://appdirectory.messenger.msn-int.com/...ry.aspx?L=en-us We also recommend changing the ExpireInDays tag at the top of the XML file from it's value of 2 to 100 (or more) so this fix doesn't change in 2 days time. Now have fun with Tic-tac-toe and all the other games to come.
