Guest pop_pixie Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Ok here goes: when I had numbers in my contact list - if i received a text from any of them it only displayed the number and not the name so I did the programme which has been recommended on this forum which added +44 to all the numbers. This worked a treat when receiving texts I could now see the name. HOWEVER i could not text or ring any of these numbers - i could only reply to their texts (when i tried to ring i got a dead signal and when texting i got a "could not send" message). I noticed that the only name I COULD see without the +44 was the only number saved to the sim rather than in the contact list. Ah ha I thought and duly transferred all my contacts to the sim and deleted them from the contact list. I can now call and text them but have the same old problem when receiving texts i.e. only the number is displayed. HEEEELLLPPPPP this phone is driving me crazy.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Hmm, apparently you have to have your contacts stored on your phone for calls and messages to be associated with them. You shouldn't have any problems calling or SMS'ing after reformatting the numbers. You are in the UK arent you? Also what format are they in now, any spaces or brackets?
Guest pop_pixie Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 All of my contacts are now stored on the sim without any prefix code. I can call and text them but messages from them only show the number, not the name. Yes I am in the UK. I dont know if there were any spaces or brackets in the numbers when they had the international code because I just used the programme from this forum to change them all.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 Presumably then they were in the correct format, +441234567890. There is no reason for you to not be able to call or SMS your contacts when in this (native to SmartPhone) format...
Guest madu Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 if a number is 07890000000 and you _just add_ +44 to it then it makes it a wrong number ie: +440789000000 and that 0 after +44 is NOT supposed to be there. I never used contact reformatter, but depending on how it works... Just post the EXACT way in which numbers are stored that do not connect and we'll figure it out
Guest pop_pixie Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 Hmmm I've made a new discovery. If when someone texts me (remember I cant see who it is because it just shows the number) I then select "save to contacts" it will then recognise them when they text me again. Huge pain to have to get everyone in my contacts list to text me though.
