Guest Martin@Home Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 OMG.. what a fantastic game. Whats the general opinion of those who have it for pc (1) mucho improved from the first outing and worth buying ? or :- (2) Production line sequel, no real improvements, dont buy if you have the last one (GTA3) ? I have read a lot of reviews saying the latter :x
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 It has chainsaws... My (PC) copy should be arriving tomorrow at some point...
Guest Martin@Home Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Flying over the city in the helicopter is worth the entrance fee alone IMHO :) Oh, and smashing up cars with hammers of course ! !
Guest Firaas Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Hmm, I want to get it, but I have a Geforce2 MX400 which GTA3 didn't run at all on (like 5fps), had to play it on a laptop which is wasn't smooth on - so no hope for playing GTA Vice City! Anyone spotted any cheap Geforce4's? :) :(
Guest adam Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Anyone spotted any cheap Geforce4's? The FX 5900 is out next month, looks rather good. Should do some damage to prices of other cards!

Anyone spotted any cheap Geforce4's? :) :( I have the same card. I'm running an amd athlon xp1800 & 256mb ddr ram and the game runs fine at 800 x 600 screen res. It seems to run better in actual fact than gta3 ! What set up have you got to only get 5fps out of it ??

The only difference is that I first ran GTA3 at 1024*768, but later changed to 800*600 with no considerable change. Will try getting it working again over the weekend!
Guest Martin@Home Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 There is an official patch released by rockstar that sorts out a lot of performance issues of the original game. Well worth a download !! The only real slowdown i get is when it rains, but even then not that noticeable
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Here's hoping my GF2MX copes with it!
Guest SeeJ Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 I reckon it runs better than GTA3! I run vice city on a Athlon 2000XP, 768mb DDR333, GeForce4 Ti4200 128mb with directx 9a and the latest detonator drivers (44.summat) at 1280 x 960 and it runs like a dream! 1600x1200 only slows down very slightly when things get busy... What a game! Definately worth buying / the wait.
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 The original GTA3 was a nightmare rush-job. Even Take2 admitted that the coding was shoddy to say the least (think the article was on either gouranga! or gta-skyscraper). Whatever, the patch didn't really increase speed much, just corrected some of the more unbelievably obvious problems. The game was just released waaay too early (sounds like a phone not a million miles from here :) Going to buy Vice City next week, assuming my s**t steam-powered athlon1200/GF2 combo will run it. Probably have to turn the detail down so much it'll end up looking like bloody Chequered Flag on the Spectrum :(
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 Oh come on now, Chequered Flag was alright ;-)
Guest Martin@Home Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 I reckon it runs better than GTA3! I agree totally. I was worried about buying it cos of the probs I had getting gta3 to run even half smoothly, but vice city ran silky straight out the box !
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 Oh come on now, Chequered Flag was alright ;-) It was OK really - even tho' it did require a 48K Speccy to run it... :) Lunar Jetman? Jetpac? Oh yes :(
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 Vice city is running smooth as anything on my PC, 1.5ghz ath xp, 256mem GF2MX. Won't let me put the res at anything higher than 640x480 though hehe! Roll on the summer when i can afford a new gfx card :)
Guest Matt Kirby Posted May 25, 2003 Report Posted May 25, 2003 Anyone spotted any cheap Geforce4's? :) :( E-Buyer are doing a 64 mb Geforce 4 for about £50 inc vat http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=31923>here. Probably the cheapest anywhere!
Guest Brody Posted May 25, 2003 Report Posted May 25, 2003 Don't buy it, its branded a Geforce 4 but its an mx which is crap!!! A geforce 2 ti would be better!! You can get the same GF 4 MX on dabs for 30 quid if u really want it HERE Otherwise the geforce 3 ti200 (£53) or the geforce 4 ti4200 (£80) on the same page would be faaaaaar superior to a gf4 mx!! Take my advise, leave the mx's alone! :) Ps. Matt Kirby wrote: "Probably the cheapest anywhere" Not the case by a long way, 20 squid cheaper on dabs!
Guest Brody Posted May 25, 2003 Report Posted May 25, 2003  I've built too many PC's in the last few years to let that one go, sorry!!!
