Guest Chris Bevan Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 Seems to have been raised elsewhere as a bug but I can't actually find what the solution is (or maybe there isn't one!) Turned phone on yesterday (I didn't then unlock it for quite a while). When I then got around to using it everything had reset to factory eg screen; keypad tones; calendar options etc. All contacts, calendar entries were there still. When I did Active Sync it started the Wizard up as if I'd never done before; then said I'd already "registered" Smartphone so I had to call it something else. What a pain to reset everything again! What had I done wrong or can I do to prevent happening in future??!! Thanks
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 It seems this is due to excessive amounts of software being installed in one go. Whenever the registry is edited it is written in full to the IPSM. If there is not enough room for the full registry when you reboot and it is written back to the original version Windows will see this incomplete version as corrupt and rewrite it from scratch. Your best advice is to keep the IPSM as clear as possible and to reboot after each app install.
Guest nickcornaglia Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 Out of curosity did you ever load the Quick Reset App found in these forums?
Guest Chris Bevan Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 Thanks for posting but I haven't loaded any software at all yet (only had the phone a few days) so it's as it came from the factory apart from putting in my own settings (ie home screen, sound etc preferences) and loading contacts/calendar etc so I can't see it can relate to overloading with software. Any other theories???? PS I haven't loaded the Quick Reset App - what does it do and where can I find it?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 It's available from my site. When you run it it will quickly reboot your phone (faster than a manual powercycle). Cornaglian: Presumably if you run it after installing or editing the registry, the registry is not written back from the IPSM properly (or at all) which can confuse windows into thinking its corrupted and to rebuild it.
