Guest Xpressive Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 I don't like the start menu mess Microsoft left on my phone and would like to organize all those shortcuts in seperate folders like 'Multimedia', 'System', 'Tools', 'Games' etc. etc. So I wonder if it would be possible (and save) to move the pre-installed shortcuts to my custom folders or even remove all the shortcuts I don't need. 1. Is this possible with the default shortcuts or could I mess anything up here? 2. What happens if I install a program, move it's shortcut to any other location and try to UNinstall it again? Would the uninstall process fail and abort then or would this delete all files properly (except the missing shortcut)?
Guest James Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 ok, you can arrange your shortcuts to any way you want using active sync or a phone explorer like smart explorer. the short cuts are in IPSMWindowsStart Menu but this can cause problems when installing updates to apps or uninstalling apps, you will have to edit them yourself. good luck!
Guest James Posted May 22, 2003 Report Posted May 22, 2003 ps. some of the shortcuts are 'fixed' the top six i think? but you can change the order of these with reg tweeks. do a search to find out how to do this!
Guest Xpressive Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 Ok, now I moved ALL shortcuts into several custom folders, without any problems. I also moved the shortcuts of my installed apps. When I try to uninstall one of these apps, a message appears like 'some elements couldn't be deleted'. This doesn't matter, I'll delete those shortcuts manually then. So it works until I can see yet. Guest madu Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 It is absolutely fine rearranging it anyway you want. The only thing is you will have to manqage them manually. Only problem arrises when you have links in XMLs or Shortcuts to those links, but that is all fixable and has no effect on performance of your phone.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 Shifting shortcuts is perfectly ok :)
Guest fozzie Posted May 23, 2003 Report Posted May 23, 2003 The only other impact is if you have one of the soft keyboards. The shortcut buttons on the keyboard rely on their associated application shortcuts being in their original location in order to work - not a major drama though!
