Can't play huge AVI files with Pocket MPV -Solution?

I copied a video file (AVI) of appr. 30 MB to my Storage Card, but can't get it to run with Pocket MPV since it says something like 'Not enough memory to perform this operation'. Memory shouldn't be a problem since DivX is a streaming video format, or not?

Since watching movies was one of the top reasons why I bought my Smartphone, I am quite disappointed. Isn't there a way to play full length movies (~100 MB) on the phone? Freespace says that there are almost 6MB of free memory on the phone.

I only tried this with DivX AVI files yet. What about .mpg files? And what application should I use to playback .mpg files?

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to convert my DivX movies into .wmv format to play them with the Windows Media Player. So what's the solution here?

Try using SP Taskmanager to clear all non-system apps. They will eat up system (not storage) memory. Failing this try rebooting the phone.

Or just power off/on and try playing file again

the 6mb you had is probably free storage memory (ie IPSM). PMVP actually needs up to 4mb of memory for indexing and other temp crap.

It works now - I just had to change my skin (Celsols Win SXP which uses a lot of full screen .gif images) to one of the simple default home screens. Seems that all those .gifs resided in the system memory for quick access.

That's a reson why I always use 1 page simple skin with just 2 images: background and MRU Target image, both tiny...

Never thought that I'd have to decide between a nice home screen or watching videos... :)

I have managed to play films at 120MB without any problem.

WAIT! It still doesn't work and gives me that error: 'Failed to load file. Please check available memory', so it has nothing to do with the selected home screen. I checked the Task Manager, but there are no apps running excepted SmartFace.

PocketMPV version: .8.041303

This is my system status (according to Task Manager):

Battery status: 100%

Physical memory: 6588 K,

IPSM Folder: Tot: 7.50 M Free 5.57 M

Storage Card: Tot: 241.13 M Free 119.63 M

I flashed my phone with the Swedish (Danish?) OS update.

What can I do now? I am quite desperated...

I attached my VirtualDub Settings. Could someone test if a video file runs on his/her phone using this settings? Thx!

Had a quick look at you settings. Basically ok but maybe reduce the frame rate. I suspect your actual problem may be related to your codec. If you encode a shorter clip (a few seconds) does that work?

Yes, shorter clips (~1MB, encoded with exactly the same settings) work fine. It seems to be a matter of file size. I am really helpless :)

I have been having similar problems. I downloaded the divx 5.0.2 codec. downloaded the vdub settings set it encoding but then due to my error aborted the encoding (i ended up with a file about 70mb), however, i put the partial file on my sd card just to see if it worked, what do you know, it did and amazing quality it was too, playing it through PocketMVP on my spv. Now i couldnt wait to put the whole, complete movie onto my phone so i set vdub off encoding again and when it was finished i was left with a file just short of 100mb. i transferred it onto the SD card (128mb) of my fone as before and went into pocket mpv as before to play it. i selected the file and it starts playing but with no picture, all i see on the screen is bright white, however the sound still works. i initially thought it may be because of lack of memory and so i closed down all other applications but still no joy. then i thought the file may be just too damn big so i chopped it in half and tried to play the halves. again i had no joy. can anyone shed any light on this matter? has anyone else had this problem and solved it? i know the files are all encoded the same. i also know that it is not the memory because the half sized files did not work whereas the 70mb file did. any ideas? please reply? also i thought id better add that my homescreen is a very simple 2.5kb jpeg on the basic skin. thanks in advance.

try pressing left while the film is playing. it sounds like u got the brightness set high, (pocket mvp can control brightness by left/right)

try and post back
