Moving mail store to Storage Card instead of IPSM directory.

I looked for some help doing this but didn't find any. I managed to figure it out, so here's the details:

1. Copy the MAPI folder from the IPSM folder to the storage card.

2. Open the registry editor and navigate to HKey_Current_User/Software/Microsoft/MAPI and view the values.

3. Change the AttachPath and Property Path to point to the location of the MAPI directory on the storage card.

4. Edit the dbpath and rename cemail.vol to something else (eg cemail2.vol).

5. Turn the phone off and on again.

6. Copy the cemail.vol file from IPSM to somewhere on the storage card.

7. Open the registry editor to the HKey_Current_User/Software/Microsoft/MAPI folder again and edit the dbpath to point to the new location of the cemail.vol file.

8. Phone off/on again and it should be using the storage card for email. You can then delete the old MAPI directory and the cemail.vol files.

You should then be able to connect and your email will be stored on the storage card.

So, now what happens if you remove the storage card and someone sends you an sms?

Don't get me wrong, your tweak is a good thing, just interested to see how resiliant Smartphone 2002 is :)

Yeah, thanks for this, now I just need to learn how to use the registry editor without buggering my SPV.

Hi

I have tried to go to the reg setting that you have said but there is nothing in the MAPI folder it is empty

I presume this will work on the C500?

Cheers

I'll lock this topic, this was originally posted for 2002 and is now not relevent three years down the line for newer devices.

In the Typhoon section of the site ther is a post about altering the registry so that your mail is saved on the storage card and not the phone.
