Guest jakram Posted March 18, 2003 Report Posted March 18, 2003 I have tried to unlock my sim with the simunlock.exe program in windows98. The first time i tried i had the latest Danish 2 update then i upgraded back to the first danish update (1.3.22) and tried with this older version. I have tried exactly how it's described on the french site. I put my SPV in the "canary 0,98" mode and then run the simunlock.exe - But when i do that, the program says: "Retrieving SPV-unlock code: 0%" and then it hangs there no matter how long i wait. Then i tried after removing activesync, but that didn't help neither... I have terminated wcescomm.exe all the times i tried! Can anyone help me please? Is it because the program can only run in winXP or that the Danish update 1 and 2 cannot be sim-unlocked??
Guest summie Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I wrote this before Chris posted the message below which has a great link to a site about unlocking (http://lifeetc.org/unlock.php). Although I have seen this programme before, I never could get it to work. Why?!?! (OK - I know what your thinking - muppet!) However the original programme did not explain the workings of this properly and I did it first time using this method. A few notes; When going to the task manager - I found the wincomme file under processes and not in programmes when I put my other sim card in - it told me that I didn't enter the right password and told me to wait for thirty seconds, then it told me that again and but told me to wait for sixty seconds - anyway - did manage to type it in eventually and it worked. further note - others in the forum that it doesn't work on some older PC OS like Win 98. I'm using Win2000 so I can't really comment - try again using this method - you never know it may work For all of you who are worried - don't be (should I say that) well at least to the extent that you do not do a hard reset - so you won't lose everything but acti-sync anyway Hope this helps Darren Hi, You can unlock the phone quite safely to work with all networks just by getting the unlock code for the phone. Look at the instructions on http://lifeetc.org/unlock.php. It will involve you putting the phone into bootloader mode and then connecting to the PC via the cradle. Run the supplied program and it will tell you the unlock code. Disconnect the phone, turn off and insert a non-orange sim and turn on. You will then be asked for the unlock code. Enter the code given by the program and the phone replies "Phone Unlocked" The message about "Network Denied" normally means that the phone is on a different GSM band to the network. I usually get it when I first turn on my phone after getting off a plane after a flight to the US. Just simply change the band settings and the phone should connect OK (providing you are in network coverage and have global roaming enabled of course) Chris
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Alternatively, i have a friend (and read here that others have done the same) who simply called Orange, gave them his phone's IMEI (on the sticker under the battery) and asked for the unlock code (not saying that it was an SPV, but his old phone) and got it, no questions asked. I understand you need an established account of more than 6 or 12 months with Orange to do this, but they apparently do NOT check the IMEI against the SIM or the phone's manufacturer's databases.
Guest Gorskar Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Yes you can do that, but orange charge you for that.
Guest Hax Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I'd be very surprised if they do charge you once you've passed the end of your original contract period - normally 12 months! Especially in this day and age, with the emphasis on electonics recycling beginning to grow quite rapidly, companies are probably being pushed into ensuring that their products can be reused. A network locked phone is much less likely to find a new home at the end of it's contract than one which is not network locked. So, if Orange do insist on a fee being paid *after* the 12 months are up, then they *will* be contributing to the large mountain of electronic waste thrown out each year, a large part of which is probably already mobile phones - but I'm sure that'll change when phone subsidies stop :) Hax
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Yes, my friend got his code for free.
Guest grahamtruman Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 The SPV Unlock program only works with windows 2000 or XP.
