Chapter listing option on VirtualDub.

Basically... Is there one?

I copied Ice Age to an AVI file from my DVD last night. I then used VirtualDub (With Clinteastman's settings - Thanks very much mate) to transfer to the SPV. Using these settings I get a very good quality film that's 76mb in size. Roughly 1mb per minute.

I find though that the phone kicks you out of Divx player at the most in-opportune times. Usually if you receive a text or call but occassionally sometimes all on it's own.

I've noticed that the Divx Player on the SPV has an option for chapters. Does anyone know what this option is? Is it like the chapters on a DVD? if it is, How do I give an encoded AVI chapters?

There's always the fast forward option... It's a bit easier IMHO.

I've been using that by typing 3 but it would be soo much easier and quicker if I could just go straight to the nearest point?

If the Chapter list on the player isn't this, then does anyone know what it's meant for?

I've looked at the main readme & I've checked in the Divxp directory. There's loads of text files here.

Every one I've read though seems to contain coding information. Basically, I can't find a readme that details the Chapter section.

I'm assuming though that the movie would already need chapter points in it. In which case, I'd need to create them in either the DVD program or VirtualDub.

The DVD program is pretty basic and only copies what I ask it to. I'm assuming from this that either VirtualDub has a setting I can't find on this or I need another program. Not that I can find one on the net yet?

Any ideas?

Does that mean you are going to carry on developing it Malloc? :)

If only i had a card bigger than 8Mb...

Malloc, I am not going to say "Carry on the project", because that’s up to you, and it's hard work! But have you any thoughts on my settings? (or even tried them) Any improvements you may suggest would be helpful (I am sure I can get more out of the player), and what are you thoughts on a small pause before the file plays (I know it will handle a higher data rate then)?

Hey Mr Eastman....

The settings are great. If you do get the size any smaller tho, could ya let me no please. I have played around a little bit but I'm still new & not exactly an expert at it yet. 1mb a minute is pretty cool but looks like I'll have to get a 256mb card for those epics for when I'm travelling down the South of France by Car.

Well... here's one I didn't expect....

I got an All-Region DVD player. 2 years ago, I bought a copy of 'Animal House' on DVD. I got it Region 1 cos it wasn't out on Region 2. (It is now.)

Now my PC DVD/CDRW combo drive is region 2. It blatantly won't play this disc. However, The DVD program will pick it up...

I copied it last night & I'm just running the codec to transfer it to the phone this morning.

Now, that's pretty cool.

I might add one or two new features to the player later.

I was initialy hopping that some developer would continue

the project, it doesn't seem to be the case, so...

For the settings, I'm using the player only to watch my cartoons,

and I've found these settings to be perfect for this purpose :

220x176 rotated 90 degres left, 10fps / Divx5.02 70Kbps with

max keyframe interval 12, and 11Khz 18Kbps sound.

I watch two 22min episodes a day, and never had any trouble

with the player yet.

Now I'm working on my little game, technicaly it looks

promising (ultra smooth scrolling, good controls), and I'd

try my best to make it fun to play

Keep up the good work Malloc, you should be very proud of PocketMVP, i think it's probably the most used app on De-certed phones :)

Just out of interest - do people find it better to rotate their DIVX's when converting or use PocketMVP's Rotate facility?

malloc

you use quite a low Kbps, that's a great setting for cartoons (cartoons compress real well, lots of flat color). For all you Dubers out there this is what i set my fullscreen setting up for (South Park ) but for live motion i set up the letterbox settings, they do 120Kbps and run great (lower sound quality than you malloc) but im sure it could do more....

EDIT

On reading my post i realise there's no point to it!! :)

PS Did you try any of the trailers malloc, I would really appreciate your views…

@ClintEastman : I must say your trailers are very good !

These are the best quality trailers I've seen so far on my SPV :)

The only small issue I see is the framerate. I found 8 fps

to be a bit low, but I imagine the source is 24fps and I'm

not sure there's a way to have anything else than 12fps

(decimate by 2, but might be too much for our small SPV)

or 8fps (decimate by 3)... That's a big problem...

Did somebody found another way to change the framerate ?

(maybe using anoter video tool than virtualdub ?)
