Guest asimps11 Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Hi all, I am new to the site and have a little problem connecting to the internet and sending and recieving email with my spv. My SPV is contract free,i use a pay as you go sim card and I have an ntl broadband internet connection for my pc.Unfortuneately I cant get the dial up configurations like the country code, phone number etc. from ntl to connect my phone. Its not how they work they use a ntl cable modem.Ive been on the phone to orange and ntl and getting no where fast. If anyone has had similiar problems or can help, please do so Thanks Alan
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 What are you trying to do with the phone? To get on the internet on your phone you use Orange GPRS. For e-mail you again use Orange GPRS, but connect through NTL's mailservers. If you are trying to use passthrough connection for your phones connection while in the cradle see www.coolsmartphone.com/fix.html Give us some more details and we'll try to help ;p
Guest asimps11 Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 I am trying to connect to the internet and to recieve emails.Everytime I go to send/recieve emails just says error unable to place call.Same when I try to connect to the internet.I have set up my email with the ntl servers pop.ntlworld.com(incoming) and smtp.ntlworld.com.gprs is set up on my phone already but I relly dont have a clue about all the different settings within Data Connections. Its driving me nuts Thanks Alan
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Assuming you are using an Orange sim, the outgoing mail should be "smtp.orange.net". If you are on Pay as you go, I guess GPRS isn't activated? which would probably explain "unable to place call"?
Guest asimps11 Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 GPRS is activated the G is at the top of screen.I phoned up and got it activated.
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 GPRS is activated the G is at the top of screen.I phoned up and got it activated. I know it sounds a bit daft, but having the "G" doesn't mean it's activated. Did they send you a "sim update"? And when you try and connect, do you get a "constant G" where your signal meter usually is? If not, I don't reckon it is activated. It wouldn't be the first time Orange had said they'd done something, but hadn't :) :!:
Guest asimps11 Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 I got a sim update message which I deleted. When I try to connect & it is dialling the G changes from the G to the signal icon in the corner. Then the error comes Unable to place call.GPRS is definetly activated.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Ensure all your Data Connection settings match these: http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...p?p=37364#37364 (I have a feeling the first password is "orangemultimedia" btw, not "multimedia"...try both
Guest martin Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 If you are on Orange PAYG, remember to change the GPRS APN's to payginternet & paygwap.
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 I'd ask them for the sim update again, the G should stay solid and not change back to the signal meter? (I could be wrong, cos I got mine back in November, and it's hard to remember, but I think I was told to open the message, then delete it, then turn my phone off, then turn it back on?)
Guest asimps11 Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 I had already seen this message earlier, all settings match.Just tried it again with both passwords still says Unable to place call
Guest asimps11 Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Martin, How do I change the settings to what you said "payg"
Guest martin Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Settings-Data connections. Edit GPRS connections Orange GPRS & Orange WAP.
