Had the phone a couple of days now and although I concur with all the gripes on the board (and I think Orange have been fairly despicable in releasing the phone at this beta stage), I might just keep it.

Most of the wish-list I agree with, especially: battery life; unsigned apps (should be no problem to just not allow them radio access)

One thing to add:

Auto power off

My Siemens SL45 turned itself off every night at midnight and I would turn it on again in the morning. This helps battery life, stops you getting woken up, and limits the amount of damage someone can do if they nick the phone.

If unsigned apps were allowed someone could knock this up in a day - as it is we have to wait months for Orange to sort it out (if they do at all)

A nice idea, but I think even if the phone WAS unlocked, no-one could write it.

With the SPV, once it's off, it's really off - No application could execute!

To be honest, it's probably a minority feature request anyway.... Maybe post it in WishList tho?

Thanks for the response.

a) I thought this was the wishlist! Is there somewhere else I should post this?

:D I don't think there would be any problem with a programme to do this - remember it only needs to turn the phone off, not switch it back on. A bit like the shutdown utilities on desktop windows.

c) I don't think it's a minority feature at all. A lot of mobile phone users I know use the auto power off feature to save battery life, avoid getting woken up in the middle of the night, and limit the amount of damage a person can do if they nick the phone. Granted, it's incompatible with using the phone as an alarm in the morning, but apart from that, I think it's very useful.

Shouldn't be a problem...

My old nokia would turn itself on to sound an alarm even when it was off.
