Guest martin Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 You are the President of the U.S.A. and you've just learned that there is an asteroid headed for France that will wipe out their entire country. It is scheduled to hit about 2.30 a.m. in just two days time from now. You have enough ships and military personnel nearby to evacuate them safely, but they are on stand-by in case of war with Iraq Your question: Do you set the VCR to record the asteroid hitting France, or do you stay up to watch it live?
Guest Vector Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 HA HA, show that to my french teacher ( after school for me )
Guest Vector Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I'm Welsh , nobody cares about Wales ( i don't either  )
Guest amaidment Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Given the topic I felt the need to post the contents of an email I was sent this morning. Sorry its not that easy to read but I don't have time to format it!! Enjoy... "Going to war without France is like going duck hunting without your accordion." Donald Rumsfeld, U.S. Secretary of Defense "As far as I'm concerned, war always means failure." Jacques Chirac, President of France "As far as France is concerned, you're right." Rush Limbaugh "They've taken their own precautions against al-Qa'ida. To prepare for an attack, each Frenchman is urged to keep duct tape, a white flag, and a three-day supply of mistresses in the house." Argus Hamilton "Somebody was telling me about the French Army rifle that was being advertised on eBay the other day -- the description was, 'Never shot. Dropped once.'" Rep. Roy Blunt (MO) "The French will only agree to go to war when we've proven we've found truffles in Iraq." Dennis Miller "What do you expect from a culture and a nation that exerted more of its national will fighting against DisneyWorld and Big Macs than the Nazis?" Dennis Miller Raise your right hand if you like the French ... raise both hands if you are French. "You know why the French don't want to bomb Saddam Hussein? Because he hates Americans, he loves mistresses and wears a beret. He is French, people." Conan O'Brien "I don't know why people are surprised the French don't want to help us get Saddam out of Iraq. After all, France wouldn't help us get the Germans out of France." Jay Leno Q. What did the mayor of Paris say to the German Army as they entered the city in WWII? A. Table for 100,000 m'sieur? "The last time the French ask for 'more proof' it came marching into Paris under a German flag." David Letterman "Do you know how many Frenchmen it takes to defend Paris? It's not known, it's never been tried." Rep. R. Blount (MO) "Do you know it only took Germany three days to conquer France in WWII? And that's because it was raining." John Xereas, Manager, DC Improv. "It is important to remember that the French have always been there when they needed us." -Alan Kent Have you heard about the new french flag? Apparently its a white cross an a white background
Guest martin Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 I found this one hilarious... French army knife Seemingly, the French have now requested a quick end to the war. Who do they think they are ? (sing this bit if you like the spicegirls) Lets hope the troops make it back OK and that there are minimal casualties on BOTH sides. This is about one man - SADDAM. HE's GOT TO GO.
Guest fraser Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 People who slag off the French about surrendering in WW2 don't know s*** about history. Racist twats. Lap up the propaganda people...don't allow any countries to have their own opinions. After all, that would be democratic, and democracy doesn't quite fit into Bush's persona.
Guest Anonymous Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 I fart in your general direction!" "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled like elderberries!" "Now, go away, before I taunt you some more!"
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 I fell off my chair laughing when I read those jokes. Some of them are quite good. I like Rumfeld's particularly. Never been in a minority the butt of many jokes, this is a refreshing change :) As for losing in WW2, well... It was actually even worse back then, because our army was thought to be the biggest and best equipped/trained in the world. The Maginot line was the epitome of Military defense (except for visionnaries like De Gaulle and his avid reader, Adolf). Our loss was a huge surprise to all involved! Imagine if the Anglo-American coalition were to lose (even so much as a major battle, not the war) against the Iraki? Well, perhaps not that magnitude, but still a major shock. It's become easy, in retrospect, to make jokes about our performance in WW2, and Indochina, and Algeria, etc... even we Froggies do. Still, it's good to remember what a humbling shock it was back then to lose in days against Germany. Perhaps our (I admit it, many) losses over the centuries have taught us to be more wary of war than others, still hot in the flush of grief and recent successes. Last, but cetainly not least... We followed Bush in Afganistan, we're letting him have his way, under protest, in Irak. What's next? Korea and it's nuclear bombs? With a preemptive nuclear strike, perhaps? ;)
Guest madu Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Haha - a coupla good ones!! (personally I like the Welsh comments) ;) Though I've got my fingers itching to lock the topic... Just have a feeling that this might turn into a massive English vs French thread, rather offensive and s*it. Though... ...At this moment, having found no proof of weapons of mass offense, we cannot justify the lock-down of the free posts as a pre-emptive attack on their rights! Thus our inspectors will keep an eye on the development of the situation in this region and signal in case of offence-breakouts. In this case immediate action will have to be taken without awaiting a second MOD resolution.... hehehe :)

Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 I think it was either Ari Fleishman or Richard Perl who recently pointed out that the French OWE the USA, because 300,000 Americans dies in WW2. A French commentator replied "Yes, and 700,000 Frenchmen". Maybe France DOES owe the USA, and should repay in kind - by waiting a couple of years before offering assistance, and then only because they've been attacked by Japan?
Guest FragMeister Posted July 11, 2003 Report Posted July 11, 2003 to learn about France's military acheivements, you can use the trusty google search engine. Go to www.google.co.uk, and in the search for box, enter 'french military victories' (without the quotes) and click the I Feel Lucky button. On a similar vane, search for 'weapons of mass destruction', again using the I Feel Lucky button, but first selecting "pages from the UK radio button"

Guest Rob.P Posted July 14, 2003 Report Posted July 14, 2003 Makes me laugh, the french also considered a war with a small area of the planet in the asian region, but decided against it as it was to risky and it definately looked like they wouldn't win, so the americans went in instead and lost the vietnam war. Now someone tell me, who is the more intelligent of the 2 here?
Guest Palindrome Posted July 15, 2003 Report Posted July 15, 2003 I'm quite happy poking fun at the French as long as it's based on the good old British/French rivarly we've had going on for the last few hundred years. What I refuse to do is bash the French because they stood up to the Bush administration and therefore becoming a tool of Bush's Administration. There are a worrying amount of reports of stupidity because people are thoughtlessly subscribing themselves to this antifrench doctorine: people boycotting French restaurants, even thought the people who own, run and rely on them for their living are not French etc. I'm not saying the good people of this forum are that thick but this kind of talk only influences those that are. The French have the right to say what they want and people have the right to slate them for whatever reason. I'd like to think that those reasons have not come from us being influenced by organisations who are using us to further their own goals.
Guest Flash Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Good shout Palindrome. For what it's worth, I think the French were the only country to make a sensible decision.
Guest fraser Posted July 25, 2003 Report Posted July 25, 2003 Plus they appear to be right about the WMD. Not that anyone seems to have noticed. Plus, I don't think the French are in the habit of "suiciding" away scientists who try to whistle-blow.
