Corrupted Storage Card filenames

Hi all, real confusing one this :?

I have a 128mb SD card and put all my mp3's, music, etc. on to it. Everything works fine, although sometimes the MS media player doesn't see anything on the card. I can fix this by ejecting and inserting the card, no problem.

I don't understand this one though! It only happens occaisonaly, and only since installing ActiveSync 3.7.

As you can see it shows loads and loads of weird filenames and folders that don't even exist.

Any ideas? :)

Have you reinserted the card while playing an mp3? (or using any other file on the card)

I have just reinserted the card and it's solved the problem. But I wonder why it does this? In theory it shouldn't show me as having many gigs of 'junk' on a 128mb card.

Ah well, just another reason to keep reinserting the card I suppose.

Thanks Monolithix.

Damian.

I experienced something similar after I'd touched the contacts on my SDCard...problem solved itself in the end, after I reinserted the card a few times.

Happened to me a few times too.Once when I went to explore my sd halfway through syncing.First time it happened I formatted my card, til I realised you only had to re-insert it

I had it happen a few times when it didn't help to reinsert... I had to format it and put all my stuff back on it which took ages

i've posted elsewhere about my Sandisk 256mb that did that.

Someone suggested formatting as fat16, which i did and i've had no problems since. don't see why it should help, but then, don't see why we don't have an sms counter or cold fusion either.

However, my advice from elsewhere (Mono, where r u?!) was to just not remove the card! At least, i've taken to powering off now before removing the card. (and backup the 256mb card to hardrive occassionally!)

I thought it might be connected to the fact that i've got a 2577 autoboot file on there, which i would always cancel. perhaps the Smartphone cab installer behaviour in trying to auto-delete the cab is causing FAT corruptions (the cab is write protected).

And Animatrix rulez.

One of my favourite fidgets is to pop the card in and out, and i've had no problems

I've had no trouble with write protected cab's either (the planus one is for some reason and its always been fine...)
