Guest Simon Desser Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 In a review of this phone, it says:- "The built in camera with digital zoom can take 352 x 200 CIF pixels picture." If that's correct, it's a shame it can't take VGA size pictures :?: Also, that's a weird ratio for a picture, it's kinda widescreen :?:
Guest adam Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 352/200 = 1.76 Widescreen is 16:9 so x by 9 1.76 x 9 = 15.84 Good guess! :)
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 More important to me than the strange ratio, is the low quality resolution of the camera (assuming the review I read is correct?) I've attached a picture comparing a selective crop of a 640X480 image, with a 352x200 image. As you can see, it's a real shame, as the Mitac's camera won't really be good for anything other than Multmedia Messaging :)Pixel comparison.jpg
Guest kingdom master Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 when i tested it, it wasnt that bad. infact id say the quality was near the v200 quality
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 V200 = 352 x 288 = 101376 Pixels Mitac = 352 x 200 = 70400 Pixels SPV/Tanager = 640 x 480 = 307200 In other words the SPV/Tanager pictures have 3 times as many pixels as the V200!
Guest kingdom master Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 yet the picture quality looks three time better, weird, lol cant wait for the mitac any news on release or anywhere to buy it yet and which networks will carry it?
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 yet the picture quality looks three time better, weird, lol Are you just talking about how the pictures look on the phone's screen, or have you viewed them on a PC? If you've seen them on a PC can you post some on MoDaCo? If you've only seen them on the phone itself, the pictures will look equally good at 220 x 176 (38720 pixels)
Guest jacoch Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 There's no much information on Mitac web site, but I found that one, that do not match most reviews found on Internet: Mio 8380 S/W MPEG4 Encode (store 60+ minutes video at 128MB SD card) Tri-Band GPRS 64,000 Colors Display Multimedia Messaging -allow audio , graphic and text files to be sent between handsets Build-In 300K Camera with Flash Light So it seems to be finally an improvement, as it includes flash light. Did they change the camera?
Guest midnight Posted May 28, 2003 Report Posted May 28, 2003 Mitac website and click on the piccie of the mitac. Mitac themselves do indeed say with flash light. oh, and its also 640 x 480res.
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 28, 2003 Report Posted May 28, 2003 That'd be well cool, having a 300K camera with flash built in on a phone. Did any one who saw it at the MoDaCo meet notice the flash, or like Jacoch do you think they might have changed the camera?
Guest Gorskar Posted May 28, 2003 Report Posted May 28, 2003 mmm, Now its starting to look like a much more attractive phone with a 300k camera... I still think the ASUS will be better, but if it is one of those phones that never arrives then this mitac might tempt me for my next phone.
Guest ClintEastman Posted May 28, 2003 Report Posted May 28, 2003 You should read the news you know... http://smartphone.modaco.com/portal.php?article=0
Guest Gorskar Posted May 28, 2003 Report Posted May 28, 2003 And find out what? I got that it had a 300k camera from this thread, but obviously I had to see some confirmation. As its on the Mitac website that would be confirmation enough! Before yesterday I thought (as most of us did) that it had a rubbishy 100k camera. Now I know better
Guest Lifestream Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 Mr dale that stands and present mio 8380 told me that the res is 320X240.
