Guest cepheus1 Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 Hi Friends, I need one of you technical wizards to help if you can please :) Up until 5 days ago I could send and recieve email without any problem, but suddenly I can no longer send email using my virgin account. Error message is 0x80042109 and says it can't connect to my SMTP server. No settings have been changed and I haven't loaded any software that might have buggered things up. I have the default ports used for my virgin account and the SMTP port is 25 - as it should be! The thing is, my freeserve email account uses the default ports and is sending emails using port 25 without any problems :? I've uninstalled my Firewall, my Virus Checker and removed all MSN software and I still can't get my virgin account to send  Any help and advice would be very greatfully received :(
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 Checked Virgin havent changed their settings?
Guest cepheus1 Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 I've also got the same problem with my easily email address which is a purchased email account. That also uses port 25 for SMTP and that won't send either! I've checked with them and the default settings are correct. They say that something on my computer is using port 25 and blocking me sending out mail, but if that was so then my freeserve email wouldn't send either!
Guest siu99spj Posted May 28, 2003 Report Posted May 28, 2003 OK, I see two possible reasons for this. First off, assuming your using Outlook Express, check that you're logging into the SMTP server (its in the Tools -> Accounts -> Properties section somewhere). This is for certain servers who only let authorised mails through to reduce SPAM. The other reason is somewhat unfixable. Many ISPs will NOT allow you to send mail through their server, if you are using a different ISP to log-on. I had the same problem when I used Freeserve E-Mail via a Blueyonder dial-up. In the end I just used Freeserve to retrieve mail and Blueyonder to send. Assuming Outlook is setup correctly though, you won't notice any difference and nor will those receiving your E-Mails (Unless they look at the properties). Though, kinda strange why your 'bought' E-Mail has problems... Hope this helps anyway,
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 28, 2003 Report Posted May 28, 2003 Oh yeah, good point hehe. There aren't many ISP's now that'll let you use tehir SMTP servers from extrernal IP's. Just change your SMTP server addresses to the one for the ISP you dial up to, no-one will know any different.
Guest cepheus1 Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Thanks guys....sorry for the delay in responding - Lotsa work!!!! I'm using Outlook XP and I am definitely logging on to the SMTP server without problem AFAIK! I've already set up different Send and Recieve accounts to overcome the problem temporarily but there really is NO excuse that my purchased easily e-mail address shouldn't be able to send  Still looking for an answer to resolve this issue if anyone can help - PLEASE!
Guest ChrisJM Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 same happened to me with outlook XP i re installed it and it works now
