Whenever I turn my SPV on in the morning, I have to press and hold the power button 3-4 times before the lil bugger fires up. Anyone else come across this problem and found a solution?

Problem has certainly been raised here before - if there was a solution I don't know - some reckon it got better after the UK update but I can't comment myself as I've not really noticed much of a problem. Try searching the forums,

I've found that it seems to start more often on the first try if you hit the arrow keys a coupla times before the power button...

I'm not 100% sure this isn't autosuggestion at work, but it works for me, at least to keep the aggrevation down.

I'd be curious to know if anyone thinks it helps on theirs... :)

Hey David, I was the 1000th visitor to your website! (and the 1001th just to make sure it was a counter.)

Do I win £5?

Have you run any updates at all? as this problem seemed to

become less ponounced after the first update arrived.

It seems to vary with different handsets - my first SPV rarely did it, the second does it all the time (and it's got dust under the screen). Why did my first one have to break :)

What, so people actually do visit my website and it's not a dodgy counter.

YAAY :)

And no you don't win anything

I find it turns on immediately if it's charging, someone said a couple of months back that it had something to do with requiring a lot of power.

When turning on any electrical device, there will be a sudden "surge" of power required as the electrical circuitry is "flooded" and capacitors, etc... are charged. Once up and running though the power consumption will then reduce. How much of a surge is required depends on what you are trying to drive - the SPV has only a small screen and a relatively low power processor so shouldn't really need much of a surge.

What's more likely is that the power supply is under software control and you will need to hold the button in for a second or so to give the processor time to wake up, sort itself out and then fiddle with it's I/O lines to "hold" the power supply on. My guess is that sometimes the processor isn't waking up properly - being a "softie", I'd lean to blaming the hardware reset circuit :) But it's most probably a software glitch somewhere

That would make sense, except for the fact that it works immediately while charging, that's what makes it seem unlikely to me.

It also works staright away if you switch it off then immediately back on again. I only have problems when the phone has been left off for a while, such as overnight.

Whilst charging, you can pretty much guarantee that the processor is active, if only to change the colour of the LED but most likely controlling the whole charging process.

As for switching the phone off and then straight back on - I dunno! This is just speculation, but maybe there is enough residual power in capacitors, etc... to keep the part of the phone that causes trouble during startup still active.

Or maybe, switching the phone off doesn't actually switch it off straight away. Even after the screen, etc have turned off, it is still possible for the processor to be alive and active preforming a few housekeeping tasks for a few seconds before going to sleep properly.

Who knows? I certainly don't, just thinking of the troubleshooting routes I'd take if I were having to debug such a problem myself. Without intimate knowledge of the hardware and software, we can only speculate.

Ah well, at least it turns on, just takes a while.

 After months of no problems with the power button on my phone, the last few days I've noticed that I too now have this problem. I guess it's been more pronounced and noticeable for the last few days as my missus has been in hospital and so I've been turning my phone off much more than normal!

Oh bugger! Sort it out O!

This must be an in built feature of the phone. I thought my on off button was faulty and I have been pushing it harder with the edge of my nail.

I will have to wake up. ARRRRRGH!!
