Has this happened to anyone else???

On the way to work today I noticed my SPV was running very low on battery, so like a good boy I followed the instructions on the screen and powered down the phone (as I have obviously done many times before). When I came to turn the phone back on it took a while (about 5 minutes) to startup, so I knew something was wrong as this typically happens when IPSM is undergoing some sort of treatment (rebuild etc).

But imagine my surprise when the phone eventually came up in French! :) But not only that, some of my apps been scrambled, the digi signature for All-Explorer failed, and Traffic-Counter thought it hadn't been authorised. :x

I imagine that some sort of IPSM corruption had occurred, but this would be terrible if I hadn't had a full backup on SD card (something which you can't even really do easily now with the latest boot loader). I imagine that most SPV users don't have such a backup, which would make this a relative disaster...

Has this happened to anyone else?

Something similar happend to me once... also while the phone was running short on battery!

Turned off the phone, and once I turned it on again, it was all messed up! *sigh*!

I take good care of the battery now, cause while I have all programs installed in a folder on my desktop, ready to install again, it's becoming more of a b**** doing this, with every new wonderful app I just HAVE to have. And will all the tweaking I've done these days, I would just HATE it if it 'died' on me again *shudder*

Apart from the starting up in French it sounds like a hard reset... probably after a particularly heavy crash. On the other hand my phone has started up in German before but I think that must have been after I'd used the German t9 file for a bit...

Good opportunity to practise your French though :)

Have you installed the SmartPhone speedups at any point?

My phone liked starting up in french when i was doing the app-unlocking procedure - the one where you copy the files across at the right time.

Happens to me sometimes - normally when I'm trying to put something on the phone that Orange prolly don't want me to

@Mono : Why'd you ask about the speed improvements tweak? Any known issues?

No, I've never even unlocked it. The only thing I've done that isn't "by the book" is use an earlier boot loader so I can back up my phone onto SD Card. Maybe that's part of the cause, but it's been ok for over a month witht the older boot loader, and it really shouldn't effect the OS once it's running.

Hmmmm, it's almost like IPSM was corrupted or something, but still their mostly... :?:

IPSM corruption isn't that uncommon.

I ask about the SmartPhone speedups as if you have them installed, your phone may revert to french on a hard reset, planned or not.

Just before my camera stopped working my phone did a similar thing.. all the emails survived but some of the settings were changed, like the home screen and the colour theme and the screen timeout time. And yes, my battery was running down. If it's a bug I dont think they'll ever find it, at least not directly as it's too hard to reproduce. Maybe different parts of IPSM fail at slightly diffefent voltages?

Yeah, I definitely never installed the speedups (never even heard of them). But it wasn't a hard reset as such. If it had been I wouldn't have had any of the apps installed. They were definitely on the system, they just weren't functioning properly.

What annoys me is that Orange have taken away the ability to back up IPSM onto SD card (in the latest boot loader), so how is any one supposed to guard against this sort of eventuality. Most average users won't be delving into USBTerm or whatever. I don't know why they haven’t updated ActiveSync to do a full backup of the SPV like it can with most PDA's.
