Guest Geeklord Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 I got a SAP a couple of weeks ago and logged on to this forum. It has really been helpful. But some of the stuff I learned here seem to be only in theory. When I go and apply it on my phone, it doesn't work... or, more likely, I can't get it to work. Like installing ringtones (ring tone setup from monolithix.org and microsoft.com-mobile device downloads) and doomSPV (monolithix.org) and the talking clock and others. I've tried installing a dozen programs and files, but so far the only things that work are mpegs. Some of the software came with their own installer, and after running them throught the setup wizard, I can see where they are on the phone, but I can't get them to work. I thought the software for SPV works for the Tanager. Are there specific places where I need to put these applications. Please help
Guest tutut17 Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 guys, try browsing your phone and go to IPSM/Windows/AppMgr/Install, baka duon naipon yung mga apps na ininstall nyo, if its there its a cab file, then execute it from the phone. hope this helps.
Guest BrAGoL Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 yes... try tutut's procedure... most likely kasi ng mga cab files ay executable files na... hope this helps...
Guest kroblanx Posted June 10, 2003 Report Posted June 10, 2003 The same thing happened to me but I've since downloaded an updated PocketTV desktop installer. It installs fine now. I forgot where I got this file, so just browse around for the latest release.

Guest zeke66 Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 i were able to install torch, explorer, quickclose, pocketcandy(whew...) but i tried installing talking clock ba yun... ayaw e.
Guest matanglawin Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 guys help, ininstall ko yung pockettv.cab lumalabas unable to install, i've copied the file na .cab sa fon ko ayaw talaga mainstall. pls help tnx I suggest that you install a Smart Explorer on your smartphone first. With this apps, it will be very easy to install cab files on your fone. After successfully installing the Smart Explorer, create an installation folder (I read this procedure in a particular website...i cannot remember the name anymore) in the IPSM folder. After downloading the .cab file in your pc, active sync it to the installation folder you have just created. Access the said file in your phone thru the Smart Explorer...find the installation folder, open it and click the .cab file. Walaaahhhh! The apps will be installed and the .cab file in the installation folder will disappear (no need for you to delete it). This is a tried and tested procedure...hope this tip helps.
Guest zubo Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 The last post talks of activesyncing the cab folder to the install folder. if i activesync, then all I can see exploring from activesync is an empty AppMgr folder. Looking thru smart explorer however, I can see a lot of files in AppMgr plus the mentioned Instal folder. So, how can I activesync the cab file into the instal folder? if I cannot 'see' it?
Guest grifter Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 @zeke, talking clock will only work if you have an mmc/sd. The easiest way to install .cab files to your SAP is to use activesync, drag and drop the .cab file to /ipsm/windows/start menu then from your phone, go to programs. then click on any folder in your program list (this will refresh the start menu view), then press back. then you will see the .cab file you copied via ASync. this file will no longer have to .cab extension (e.g., smartris.cab will look like smartris). click on that file and it will start the installation. HTH.

Guest zubo Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 I thought it might be the answer, but STILL I have a problem installing this app. I have tried copying both CAB files which I have across to the card as suggested, but then when I open the file it seems to open ok then says PocketTV_Pro.SIGNED_SMARTPHONE_ARM.CAB failed to install on your device - WITHOUT even asking me where I want to install it. Its like now it cannot process the files in the CAB .... weird!! Anybody help????
Guest terrible Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 @zubo, This might be over simplistic but what about memory? You did not mention in your post if you have enough internal memory or if you have an external storage card. If you have the program SP Task Manager, execute it and in the application Menu choose display system status. There you will find if your phone still has memory enough to accommodate the new program you are about to install. I'd like to post a warning to fellow SAP users that this could be dangerous. I installed the IA Caller ID demo version in the SAP of my niece which didnt't have enough memory to accommodate it (no external memory) and in the process, I got something like an out of memory error and then a system hang. When I turned the SAP off and on I got an error each that said the application could not be executed. The effect: the STK Menu lost all its items and the SP Free Mem would not function. I HAD TO DO A HARD RESET. Some of you guys may be lucky the installation produced an error rather than just let the phone hang and a leave a future discovery that something is wrong with the phone (software-wise). Check your available memory. It is so easy to fill your phone up with all these freeware and demoware abounding. If you install the Hexacto Tennis Addict it will warn you to always keep your available IPSM memory to at least 40% capacity.

Terrible - thanks for the tip and warning: superb program. phys memory = total 12112k free = 1352k IPSM memory = total 7.5m free = 1.16m (much less than 40%) yes I have a storage card tot memory = 6.45m free = 3.19m my take on this is since I am trying to install using the card - ie CAB goes into MyDocuments on the card then it should be ok - or is there something else?
Guest BrAGoL Posted June 21, 2003 Report Posted June 21, 2003 @ zubo have you tried to download again the .cab file from the link above? try to D/L it again... maybe it was a corrupted file (just a thought)... when you're done, ASync it again and execute it from your phone... HTH
Guest zubo Posted June 21, 2003 Report Posted June 21, 2003 BrAGoL I have tried three permutations of this - Windows Installer, CAB files for Personal unreg version CAB for Enterprise registered, all failing much the same. I have even opened the cab files - files inside are intact and ok. All I can say is that it is a good job that I did not shell out money for this - I would be really pi##ed with PTV.com In fairness to them I have supported software users in another life, and it aint easy with the various combination of things which can and do go wrong. Its just so frustrating. I guess the only thing I can do is walk away from this and find another similar player. Shame.
Guest BrAGoL Posted June 21, 2003 Report Posted June 21, 2003 i can't figure where you went wrong... mine did'nt encountered any such thing yesterday... i only installed it yesterday...
Guest zubo Posted June 21, 2003 Report Posted June 21, 2003 yeah I know. Im trying to install pocketmvp, but again the install is taking forever - ie its hanging I think (if an install from a cab takes more than 3 minutes then something is wrong imho). about time someone created a progress bar installer and better error trapping on these apps. I think my phone is overloaded, its probably the big brother theme as my main ringtone (1.4mb) + space invaders + smart explorer + IA caller ID and all templates and some of my gifs + longhorn's skin + phm registry editor + iMov Messenger.... phew btw anyone tell me what the lock does (currently set on) does?
Guest zubo Posted June 21, 2003 Report Posted June 21, 2003 errrrr not sure what happened ..... ..... deleted some sound files, removed battery reinserted, removed re-inserted sd card. Copied cab into windowsstart upaccessories as normal, REMOVED phone off cradle and activesync (significant???) yeeeeeeeeeeees now installed into phone pockettv now where are the movies directory???? in the phone that is also ... anyone give me urls of good movies finally ... can someone tell me how, if you have restricted space on the card can you copy some big movies or to the point - I tried to copy an mpg which was about 15mb to the card but it couldnt store it - I thought the standard orange sd card has 128mb. Anyone help me here, I am almost done, thanks
Guest ppcsurfr Posted June 21, 2003 Report Posted June 21, 2003 @zubo: Glad you figured it out. Enjoy your SAP. Mabuhay ~ Carlo
Guest dinoalbert Posted June 21, 2003 Report Posted June 21, 2003 here are some links to sites with lots of movies (mtvs, trailers, Soutpark episodes, etc.) to download for smartphone viewing: http://www.smartphone2000.com/videos.htm http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bobby.wallace...ndex.html#Music http://www.pockettv.com
Guest robert_vanhees Posted November 8, 2003 Report Posted November 8, 2003 I've tried to install the LonghornM5 theme on my spv but I got an error that it didn't had system-authorization (I hope I translated it good, because i'm from Holland). Do I need to have a unlocked phone do install this. Greetings Robert
Guest spv_dman Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Is it Orange SPV? Uncertified programs won't run on it. You need to decertify it first. Look at the main areas of the forum for the solution. Or you can update your rom to eurotel, imate or qtek. Remeber, there's a distinction between unlocking and decertifying. Unlocking - when you want to make your phone work with other carriers Decertifying - when you want to make "unsigned" programs work on your phone
