Guest dieter10 Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 I've been fooling around with making WAV files to use as ringtones and I've noticed that the lower the bit rate and frequency, the smaller the file size (ya...I'm a real genius). I was just wondering whether somebody could explain to me what the difference is between bit rate and frequency and their effect on quality? Is it better to have a lower bit rate and a higher frequency or vice-versa? Also has anyone discovered an optimal balance between bit rate and frequency that creates the best sound quality at a reasonable file size. Cheers
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 16bit 16khz mono is the "optimal" raite. The higher bit rate will increase the filesize (number of bits of data fed to each channel per second...as i'm reliably informed).
