Guest fixit Posted May 29, 2003 Report Posted May 29, 2003 Feasibility study. Mic and audio is there. Hate to think about the coding for pich recognition tho. http://www.pdasupport.com/Software104.htm Could really do with something like this, I'm forever losing my tuner and even when I can find it I don't want to take it out of the house. Sadly my C++ is nonexistent. Arse.
Guest glynton Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I never thought that my SPV could act as a Tuner... if this is possible... i would pay money to have it. The price of digital Tuners and the frequency of their disappearance, more than compensates for a Tuning App for the phone! Please Please Please bring out an app like this!!!! Glynton ps.... I'm quite pissed right now (been to £1 party for students at my union)... my mate just dared me to eat a whole 'Rocket Chili' raw, so i did.... and for god sake... if you ever read this... never eat a raw 'rocket Chili' or any kind of raw chili!... it's more painful than you could possibly imagine. I thought it'd be fine because i used a couple in my Chili con carne that i cooked tonight... but oh my god it's a different story when they're Raw!!!!!
Guest Vector Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I've got two tuners, one for upstairs and one for downstairs, but i still manage to lose them all the time, this would be a great little app to have, and i think i would probably pay for it  PS: i wonder if my SPV could act as a capo aswell someway  , i keep losing that aswell :D
Guest PsychoDave Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Hehe :D Yup Like it, David Dunno bout a capo but it makes a pretty good slide   At least mine did when it fell out of my pocket :D
Guest glynton Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Maybe someone should link to this from the Developer's Forum. glyn
Guest muff Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 what exactly do you need this to do? I'm a non-guitar player - semi-competent programmer  so might be able to help, if not at least the details are here for other programmers to try do you just need it to play the notes for you to tune to? or do you want it to tell you how out of tune the guitar is?
Guest Charlie Mouse Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Ideally could do with a tuner that tells you how out of tune your guitar is, preferably with a little VU meter to tell you wether you are flat or sharp. This obviously needs to take an input from the mic, analyse the frequency and display the results. The only thing I would add is make sure it works for bass guitars as well!!! This would be a uber-useful app (and good for whistling into when your bored to see what notes you can get  )
Guest muff Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 obvious question, have you contacted the company in the link at the top to see if they are planning to convert it over to the SPV?
Guest Vector Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 I just e-mailed them, i'll let you know when i get a reply
Guest siu99spj Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 Problem is that you'd need a fair bit of hardware, to actually recognise the pitch and such. All the software would do is analyse the digitised result (Input via cradle interface) and show the output. Could do it if I had enough money lying around, enough time and resources (Or a 3rd yr Cybernetics Uni project), but I don't, sorry. Its a shame too, pretty sure someone could make some money from it, even if there are only 3 people interested here. You couldn't get the SPV to analyse the results directly as the mic doesn''t have a suitable frequency response.
Guest Vector Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 Just recieved an emai back from them, here it is Although we have been looking at porting our products to the Smartphone it does require quite a speedy processor in order for the guitar tuner to have the accuracy. For this reason it is probably not possible with the current batch of phones.... but I am sure that we will get there before long. The idea of having a tuner built into the phone would I'm sure apeal to many people. looks like we'll have to wait for faster phones :D
Guest motbe Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 Having looked into this on the PocketPC before, it's certainly possible. I'm not sure if the smartphone is too slow (as that company mentioned) for this type of functionality, but I do know there are several guitar tuners for the PocketPC. And actually, tuning requires some intense Calculus to determine the dominant tone in a sampled sound and etc.. A long time ago I coded half of what was necessary for a guitar tuner on my HP Jornada HPC, but didn't end up finishing it.... If someone can tone down the math a bit, I'm sure the processor in the SmartPhone could handle it...
Guest virdirs Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 I used to have a bit of software that was very basic.. but it used to play the 6 notes for you to tune you guitar to.. The same bit of software had a chord dictionary so you could look up chords by finger placement or by name, and you could store your own chords in there under seperate filenames (useful to remember chords for different songs). Anyone know if this could be done for the spv?... The software I had was a bit of shareware for my old psion 3c.
