Guest Pagemakers Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Is there any way to save email attachments received by the phone?
Guest fozzie Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 1. Click on the attachment in the email. It may or may not open up an associated application - this doesn't matter. If there is an error about not having an associated application, just hit ok. 2. Navigate to IPSMApplication DataVolatile. The attachment, with correct name, will be found here. Edit (for clarity): Hit the Home key and then fire up your usual Explorer. Don't back-out from displaying the email. As soon as you go back to the Inbox view, the contents of Volatile are lost. 3. Copy the attachment to the directory of your choice.
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 Does this work for jpgs? In an email, they open in Internet Explorer, if I want to save the picture, I've been going to"IPSM" then "Mapi" and then "Attachments", then guessing at which file is the right one, and renaming it to xxxxx.jpg and copying to another directory  I can't find them in "Volatile" though?
Guest Simon Desser Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 I can't get it to work at all  Just emailed myself a Word document, tried to open it, obviously it wouldn't open, went to "Volatile", nowt there :?:
Guest fozzie Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 hmmm, works fine for me. Just emailed myself both a .jpg and .doc. Clicked on them - the .jpg opened in PIE. Hit 'Home'. Used SmartExplorer to look in IPSMApplication DataVolatile and there it was. Clicked on the .doc - got the error. Hit 'Ok' and again, used SmartExplorer to look in Volatile and there it was, along with the .jpg
Guest fozzie Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 After a quick think, I reckon you must be 'backing out' of the messaging app. As soon as you back up from viewing the email, the contents of 'Volatile' are lost. You need to hit the Home key with the email still being displayed, without going back to the Inbox view.

Guest fozzie Posted May 30, 2003 Report Posted May 30, 2003 No probs  You don't have to do each attachment individually either. You can click on all of them (as long as they are in the same email) and then go to Volatile and they should all be there. I don't know what the limit it is? The most I've done is 4. I suppose it's down to how much free memory there is.
Guest cybercamel Posted September 6, 2004 Report Posted September 6, 2004 Sorry to bump this post, great advice on saving attachments, thanks! But can anyone tell me why I can't copy or move the file I'm trying to save to my storage card? No problem copying it to my phone using the file manager, but I get an error message when doing the same to the card. The card is a new 256mb one, so there is plenty of space. The file is an excel worksheet which I view with ClearVue.
