is there any way that i can tell if the phone is blocked on a certain network, the main reason that im asking is that i cant connect to the internet no matter what i do, ive gone down all the lists of instuctions, but still cant connect.

Can someone help please!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Generally, if the phone is blocked, you'll see "Network Denied" instead of the network identifier on the homescreen (assuming you have the default homescreen or one that shows the network name) If you see a valid network name, you probably just have improperly configured GPRS settings.

Do you get the top centre G on the phone when switched on ?

Also you haven't said what network you are with and whether its a contract or pre-pay account. Remember that there will be different APN's (access point names) for GPRS on pre-pay.

i use both orange and o2 pay as you go, but ive been on to orange themselfs and they sent me down the network settings and they still dont work, is it possible that it is a problem with the phone itself

Turn your phone off & on again.

Goto Internet Explorer menu-option-connections and tick 'auto detect'

Try and connect to both these addresses.

http://www.google.com/wml (then check properties for WML, HTTP)

wsp://www.google.com/wml (then check properties for WML, WSP)

You can use menu/refresh if needed.

This will tell you if either APN's are accessable. If you have the centre G displayed (GPRS activated) then you should at least be subscribed to one APN.

Try taking the bus about 8 miles away from where you are now.

then try connecting - Orange are apparently having problems with the GPRS mast/transmitter/thingy's all over the place.

I had to go two towns over before i got a GPRS connection.

OK this is the settings for O2 PAYG in10 easy steps.

(I also use O2 PAYG SIM for IE as its free  )

1 Create proxy connection for WAP.

Description : O2 WAP proxy

The Internet, WAP Network, 193.113.200.195, WAP

2 Create GPRS connections for O2 WAP

Description: O2 WAP

The Internet, payandgo.o2.co.uk, payandgo, password

3 Create Dialup O2 CSD connection

Create Dial Up connection

Description: O2 CSD

The Internet, 44, 7712, 927927, o2wap, password

4 Make the following data connections

Internet connection=O2 CSD (uses HTTP for HTML & WML pages)

WAP connection = O2 WAP or O2 CSD (uses WSP for WML pages)

Check connections (use menu-refresh to re-load page if needed)

5 Int.Explorer - de-tick 'auto' and make Select network=The Internet.

6 Successfully access http://www.google.com/wml site and use properties to comfirm Type=WML and protocol=HTTP

7 Int.Explorer- de-tick 'auto' and make Select network=WAP Network

8 Successfully access wsp://www.google.com/wml site and use properties to comfirm Type=WML and protocol=WSP

9 Int.Explorer - tick 'auto detect settings' to allow either protocol to be used automatically.

Jo,

Ain't is great when it FINALLY works. I reckon these are the stages to setting up internet on the SPV :?  (fix)  8)

You're correct about the Orange settings and you can create additional GPRS connections for it. Test each APN in the same way as before.

Settings for GPRS WEB

Description: Orange GPRS

The Internet, orangeinternet

Orange WAP proxy settings.

Descreition: Orange WAP proxy

The Internet ,WAP network, 192.168.71.35, WAP

Settings for GPRS WAP.

Description: Orange WAP

Connects to: The Internet, orangewap

Make the following data connections

Internet connection=Orange GPRS (uses HTTP for HTML & WML pages)

WAP connection = Orange WAP (uses WSP for WML pages)

There's also MMS but I would get these working first.

I assume you are on contract as PAYG APN's would be payginternet & paygwap

since you now a lot about them im going to pick your brain once again!

The OTA unlock will use GPRS with the orangeinternet APN so I would get that working first and then try the unlock (not sure if it will work over CSD connection). Hopefully Orange have set up your account correctly and don't have any network faults.

Good Luck :D

MARTIN!!

If i had half a brain and did what you said then life would be a lot easier!!, i phoned up orange and all they did was change the settings from orange internet to payginternet, as you said, but sadly i forgot to put in, or in other words it works, up intil this point i was all for selling or swapping the SPV, BUT WHEN YOU SEE WHAT IT CAN DO THERE IS NO CHANCE

 :D  :D

MANY THANKS TO ALL
