Guest the loc-man Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Hi, just got a SPV, thinking of getting Orange care at £5 a month, phoned up and guy said can get it whenever you want not just at the start of your contract (is this correct?). so whats to stop you waiting until (if) your SPV breaks, accidently gets broke (will this include a smashed screen?) then phone up, get orange care, wait and bit then phone up?? any1 done this? any comments (apart from thats cheating!?!) ta
Guest mattat Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 I think that the main thing is that they may well simply not pay out under the policy (i.e. give you a new phone) as it would look a bit suspicious, day one you take out a new policy, a week later you call up saying that your phone is broken, and they have no records of any phone usage since you took out the contract. They then can withhold the contract or make you pay for emergency orange care. And and obviously trying it would at hte very least be breach of contract, if not illegal.
Guest arunhallan Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 You could put your simcard in another phone, then after a month say the spv is broken couldnt u?
Guest mattat Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 They can probably tell, via the IMEI number whether the phone itself has been used.
Guest mavisdavis Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003  On Thursday my phone would not charge up and I was down to one bar on the meter so at 23:30 I called orange for O care.. I waited until yesterday (Saturday) morning and gave them a call they put me on hold for about 5 mins because of a problem with my account (I started sweat fast).. Then the nice young lady said I had called at just the right time as they had a delivery in my area at 18:30 that night...COOL  So as long as 24hrs has past you can place your claim like the samll print says and you dont report the problem when you take out O care then there shouldn`t be a problem. 8)
Guest SeaneyC Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 There's nothing to stop you doing this, i hope you're enjoying the phone that everyone else who has insurance has paid for.
Guest mike-oh Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Are you bound to a 12 month contract with O care once you sign up even if your actual contract runs out in say 9 months? Or how exactly does it work?
Guest coolcatshaft Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 if you take out orange care you can cancel it at anytime as long as you have not made a claim. if you do make a claim you have to keep paying for orange care for 12 months. unless your contract finishes sooner and you end it with a 30 day notice. so technically you could take out orange care in month 11, then make a claim, then just not review your contract in month 12 and end it, you dont have to carry on paying for orange care when you dont have a contract ongoing.
Guest madmally Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 I think that you will find that you are wrong. When you take out orange care you take it for a 12 month contract. This is weather you make a claim our not. Also Orange CAN tell every time you do a sim swap as it list the imei number to ur sim....Check out the terms and conditions of care..But thier is one point I would like to state. You don't need orange care to get a replacment for a faulty SPV as orange is the manufactory and you have 12 months manufactoirs warrenty with the phone any way.....
Guest glynton Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Plus... how are you gonna call Orange Care when your phone doesnt work? Glyn
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 You don't need orange care to get a replacment for a faulty SPV as orange is the manufactory and you have 12 months manufactoirs warrenty with the phone any way.....The only problem there is that you could be without the phone for more than two weeks waiting for it to be repaired :D Plus... how are you gonna call Orange Care when your phone doesnt work? Via a land line
Guest Hax Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 I phoned Orange to cancel the care on my two "old" Nokia 8310's - both still in use (g/f and mother) but I figured that I didn't want to continue paying eight quid a month for care that I'll probably not use - if they break, I'll just get new ones! Anyway, I was told that Orange Care was binding for twelve months and that I couldn't cancel until the twelve months were up. Hax
Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Orange's "Isaac" software lists the IMEI number of every phone that you've used with a particular SIM. 156 use it a lot, as it saves trying to fix a problem with an Ericsson only to discover that the customer is NOW using a Nokia, but forgot to mention that he'd swapped SIMs with his girlfriend, and was now using her phone (or bought a cheap phone while on holiday in Spain, is one I recall hearing.)
