Ive downloaded a 250mb mpeg file. I was wondering what the best settings were so I could make it smaller but still able to watch it on the pc at near enough full screen? Could anyone give me a few compression settings for virtual dub? Cheers

Yeh but when I compress using divx, the file gets bigger! I know i'm being a right idiot but I dunno what im doing wrong.

There's no way that a DivX should be bigger than an MPEG file!!! It must be the way u have encoded the file. Try here for a good site

Yes there is, usually when you forget to choose mpeg-3 for the audio compression ;p

My DivX encoding guide should help. Just remember to up the bit-rate for PC viewing. Based on what you've said, anything in the region of 600+ should be ok with 96kbps MP3 sound.

You can find the guide here, the fifth post down. Assuming you get the settings right it should be OK.

Basically, don't crop (Unless black borders to be removed) or resize the image!
