Guest meaks Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 Ive downloaded a 250mb mpeg file. I was wondering what the best settings were so I could make it smaller but still able to watch it on the pc at near enough full screen? Could anyone give me a few compression settings for virtual dub? Cheers
Guest meaks Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Yeh but when I compress using divx, the file gets bigger! I know i'm being a right idiot but I dunno what im doing wrong.
Guest capt_janeway Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 See clinteastmans settings they work for me - Goldmember down to 82mb!!

Guest capt_janeway Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Whoops thought I was being clever and didn't read your first post properly sorry!!
Guest Brody Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 There's no way that a DivX should be bigger than an MPEG file!!! It must be the way u have encoded the file. Try here for a good site
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Yes there is, usually when you forget to choose mpeg-3 for the audio compression ;p
Guest Brody Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 I meant there's no way if you're configuring it correctly!! It must be the way u have encoded the file
Guest siu99spj Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 My DivX encoding guide should help. Just remember to up the bit-rate for PC viewing. Based on what you've said, anything in the region of 600+ should be ok with 96kbps MP3 sound. You can find the guide here, the fifth post down. Assuming you get the settings right it should be OK. Basically, don't crop (Unless black borders to be removed) or resize the image!
