Guest FrankyG Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Hello all, Tried to start windows media player from a playlist on my start menu, the window animation activated (Midnights)...and then nothing. I then tried to start WMP manually, from it's own shortcut on the start menu, same result. Checked task Man, it wasn't running and there was no process running which could have been WPM. I then used SmartExplorer and tried to launch it directly from Windows, this produced the same result. Hmmm? Tried re-booting a few times, no change. Also removed WMP skins, Longhorn Pro extras, etc etc..anything I could think was related to WMP but STILL it wouldn't launch. Anyone experienced this before, any suggestions for what to try next...save a hard reset? My phone has SP1 installed, decerted, un-locked etc. Thanks for any advice, FrankyG
Guest jim80b Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 the reason it wont work is the skn file is either corrupt or missing. either edit the reg to point to a valid skn or reinstall one of the media player skins around. will post a cab here shortly that will reset the media player skin back to the original crappy windows one as u r not the only one to have this prob
Guest Richie M Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Longhorn Pro extras I'm afraid theres your problem  have a look at the Reload thread in Customisation for why, if your using Reload download and install v1.3 as this will fix it, otherwise your gonna have to edit your registry. Go to: HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftWindows Media Player 8Parameters Value: SkinFile. Rename the Value Data to be wmplayer.skn That should sort you out. unless you have deleted the skin in the SkinDir
Guest jim80b Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 as promised heres a cab. havent tested but it should work fine. havent got spv on me  as wifes making me revisemedia player reset.CAB
Guest FrankyG Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Cheers, thanks fellas..that cab sorted it. Most annoying, it was when I wanted to demo (read, show off) the music and MP3 capabilities of the SPV that I was disappointed  Always the way though... Thx again, FrankyG
Guest Mort Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 That CAB worked a treat... i don't know how I lost it in the first place... it happened immediately after a complete hard reset. Once again you boys save our bacon!
Guest broeren79 Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 i have about the same problem, but i noticed the cab file was not here anymore.... anyone still has it??
Guest FrankyG Posted July 17, 2003 Report Posted July 17, 2003 Were you logged in when you tried to download it? I just clicked on the link and it worked fine. try again and if no success I'll email it to you if you want. FrankyG
