Web hosting?

Does anyone know of a good cheap web host?

I dont need tons of advanced features, or a massive bandwidth limit.

Just somewhere I can host files and transfer a domain name to without paying a massive price (as close to nothing as possible!)

Check out the MoDaCo hosts, BlueDomino!

They rock, big time, cheap, unlimited bandwidth, awesome!

They have certianly done a good job with modaco, but I wasn't really looking to spend as much as $9.95 a month.

It's basically just for an old hobby site, and I am willing to pay a little bit to host the domain name and files to avoid all the problems with free hosts (banners all over the shop and miniscule transfer limits, so that if more than 2 users an hour visit the transfer limit is exceeded - you know who you are yahoo)

The site in question is http://www.users.freenetname.co.uk/~bkdwarf/

They have suspended the domain name (http://www.blackdwarf.co.uk).

I am willing to pay the fee they want to transfer it to another web host (£25) but I don't really want to costs to escalate too far beyond that, considering it is only an oldish hobby site.

Getting there, but still not quite what I'm looking for. I need the domain name hosted, but only a small amount of webspace/transfer limit.

Maybe just a virtual host? Or domain redirection service?

I could host on my ISP pages, but host the domain somewhere which could point my domain to where I choose. It would be handy if I could change the redirection if/when I change ISP. If I could do this cheaply then it might be the ticket.

Hm, maybe something like this. Should allow me to keep my hard earned web presence (if you search "black dwarf" on google it comes up #1. for "dwarf" it is #20 and this is without knowing any clever tricks!)

Total cost for me = £5/yr for the domain name hosting/redirection service and £25 to get it transfered to that service. The webpage itself can be hosted on my ISP's webspace, meaning no extra money to pay there.

If anyone else has any better suggestions though I'd love to hear them.

Edit: I've found a cheaper place: £1.99/yr !

Or you could use your ISP as the host and then use V3 for FREE redirecting. Works for me (If I could be bothered to repair me site at somepoint!)

Lycos do a pretty cheap one - couple of quid a month, tenner for a new domain, plenty of features - and I have had no probs accessing mail using IMAP throguh the SPV
