Guest Martin@Home Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Just purchased an AOPEN GeForce4 MX440SE 64MB DDR AGP RP VO (£32 quid from Dabs!) to replace my GeForce2 MX400. I am running an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ processor with 256MB DDR Ram. Have looked all over the web trying to find opinions on this card but they go from "Crap.... You wont notice any difference from your GeForce2" all the way up to "This should at the very least double the FPS you are getting". Does anyone have any Ideas what sort of performance increase I can expect ? Also.... What the bloody hell does the RP and the VO bit mean ? :? :?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 RP/VO are just brand names (no doubt someone can expeand on that). And unfortunately the low end GF4's are no great improvement and GF2's. From a GF2MX you may notice some improvement, but nothing too major. You can pick up GF4 Ti4200's for under 100 quid now...
Guest ajb3000 Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 RP = Retail Package (I Think!) VO = Video Out Yes you will notice a reasonable difference over a GF2 MX400

Guest Martin@Home Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 But seriously, thanx for your opinions ...
Guest amo Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 No serious improvement unfortunatly. The geforce 4 mx series are just gf 2s in disguise
Guest Martin@Home Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 No serious improvement unfortunatly. The geforce 4 mx series are just gf 2s in disguise Doh ! Not being to hot on the subject, I just assumed that a GeForce4 was 2 releases better than a GeForce2 ! Oh well, only £32 quids worth of cock up I suppose.....
Guest Martin@Home Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Please note..... Not a warez question !!!! Is 3dMark available as a free download anywhere ? Maybe an older version perhaps. I want to do a comparisson between the two cards. I have 3dWinBench but its not that good......
Guest Martin@Home Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Cool ! Just found 3dMark2000 available free from the mad onion site. Its no longer supported so is available free.
Guest ajb3000 Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 There are shareware versions of all versions of 3DMark available to download from their site for free, also it's no longer called MadOnion, it's now FutureMark
Guest Martin@Home Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 New question.... Whats the difference between the 440 version and the 460 version ? Cos the 460 version appears in the top ten cards (hall of fame 2003) on the "FutureMark" site.... (albeit in 10th position LOL)

Guest Martin@Home Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 So my New card scores well over twice what my old card does then ? But I wont notice a lot of difference ? :? :? <------ Very Confused
Guest ajb3000 Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 I said you would notice a reasonable improvement. Good card sub £100 = GeForce 4 Ti4200 or Radeon 8500.
Guest Brody Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 sub £100 video cards eh?? GF4 ti's and radeons are your best bet (i prefer the gf's personally  )vidcards.JPG
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 The 8500 is a very nice card, not as good as the gf4 ti4200 though
