Guest stestroud Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me. I can send mms, text and use gprs/wap but I just cant receive calls. I can receive txts, but no calls. I've checked and there are no diverts are call barrs active. This was an orange phone but i have my o2 sim in it. Unfortunately, i dont have the orange sim anymore so i cant tell if its a phone prob or sim prob. what should I do? Thanks, Steve
Guest stestroud Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Yes, i can also make calls. I phoned o2 but they didnt have a clue. So i was hoping fellow smartphone users might be able to help
Guest James Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 never heard of it mate? weird! sorry i can be more help.
Guest martin Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Describe what happens when you call your mobile from another phone. Do get the answering service or a call failure ?
Guest Tyrant_worm Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Bang on Martin. Are calls going to answer phone, continuous tone or silence? If number unobtainable or silence, is your mobile no. O2 native or ported in from another network, does it fail to a verbal announcement? Can other O2 users receive calls where you cannot? If your problem is ongoing and can answer the questions above I should be able to let you know what is up.
Guest stestroud Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 I tried a friends o2 sim in my phone and it works just fine. But my sim still cant receive calls. When people try to phone me they get an automated woman saying that she cannot connect the call. Here's the interesting bit: i dialled my callback on service to turn my voicemail on. The automated bloke said to hold on a moment while they switched on the service, then came back and said they couldn't receive my number! Yet my mate's 02 sim is fine.
Guest youngerpants Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 I've had this problem in the past with my first ever mobile phone (the big Nokia Orange thingy about 10 years ago) The problem & resolution was quite simple, you currently have all calls diverting to answerphone, you should be albe to switch it off somewhere in the phone settings menu younger

The fact that your freinds SIM worked in your phone means that signalling to his HLR was OK and also call routing to the MSC and paging were fine. We also know its not a problem with your phone. Its strange because you can make originating calls but terminating calls fail to your SIM which results in an announcement (not the answering service). General signalling to your HLR must be OK or this would affect other things, also O2 would definately know about it :? I would ask O2 to make sure that they had not accidently barred incoming calls on your account. If they had not, I would ask them to investigate a possible HLR enquiry fault for mobile terminating calls. There could be a problem with issuing call routing information ? Ask O2 if you're the only one complaining about this.
Guest Tyrant_worm Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Yep I would also suggest contacting O2. Presuming nothing simple like Do Not Disturb diverts then you may have an entry on the locally held mirror of you're subscription details (Visitor Location Register)but you're Home Location Register(master copy) may not know which VLR you are currently served by, this would result in you being able to make calls, send SMS but not receive. If this is the case then turning you're handset off for a period may benefit, how long this would need to be for would depend on how often O2 flush 'detached' subscriptions from their VLR's. Also you didn't mention whether you ported you're no. to O2. If you did then issue may relate to your original network, the way call routing works(digit analysis) all incoming calls have to route via the network to which the no. is native. This is signalling required for call setup only not voice. Is the woman heard a regular announcer on O2?
Guest stestroud Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 yeah the woman's voice is regular. I contacted o2 but i just get another inexperianced person who knows nothing about phones. To save hassle im admitting defeat and have bought a new o2 sim. Thanks for your help guys.
Guest martin Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 To save hassle im admitting defeat and have bought a new o2 sim. Damn - that sounded like a good fault there. I'll reckon we'd have found it before O2 did
Guest stestroud Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Yeah. Thanks anyway. I sent o2 another email so i'll pm you when i get the reply. thanks, steve
