Guest fozzie Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Resco Explorer 2003 is a powerful file management utility for your SmartPhone. It implements all standard features such as file/folder manipulation. Thus, you can copy, move or delete files, create folders, run programs with arguments, and search for files or folders. File Explorer 2003 is a complex solution of the following modules: Strong File Encryption ZIP Compression The File Manager The built-in viewer The Network Browser The Registry Editor Full info is on the Resco site. Edit: Yowser, just installed the demo - a shed load of functions, settings, options etc. This app is jam-packed with features. Fozzie
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Nice one Fozzie  I've had a little play around with this app. and I have to say it's pretty damn good :!: The manual is for Pocket PC, and there doesn't seem to be any information on basic navigation, so if anyone's interested, here's what I've found out so far:- Press 2 to switch between Folders & Files (when not in tree view you must press "Select" to access files) Pressing # selects the current file and the next one in line (and so on and so on) Useful for selecting multiple files. Pressing 8 deletes the current file(s) or folder(s) Press 3 for "Find" function Keep pressing 1 (in tree view) to jump back up a level Press 9 for "Properties" of current file(s) or folder(s) Encryption seems to work well, and could probably come in very useful. Nice touches are things like "Open with" and "File associations" You can also tell it to use an "External" browser such as "SmartExplorer" but I found it got a bit confusing :? You can also change the split screen from horizontal to vertical. I've only touched the surface of what this app. can do, but I'm very impressed so far :D
Guest fozzie Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Hehe - sounds like you did the same as me. Did a quick check of the manual on the website, realised it was for the Pocket PC and so dove into the app hitting keys to see what they did  I emailed Resco straight away and got a reply just now. They are in the process of updating the online manual but said that the apps Help had all the shortcuts etc. I just looked and jeez, what a comprehensive html based help system (Menu, Help, Help). And of course, there's a complete keyboard map with three images for each of the sub apps. RTFM :D This app looks v. good.
Guest madu Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 When you view a file hit 1,2,3 for different view options ie ANSI BIN HEX 4 - find, 5- Wordwrap (only in ANSI, 1), 6 - font This looks powerful! Very.. But there is something about SmartExplorer that makes it best _browser_ so far - nothing can beat it for usability! And multiple file manipulation is only possible with consequent files by pressing/holding #, but only consequent... 0 seems to refresh view Still, I prefer having separate browser and regeditor - seems to make sense to me. Nevertheless it looks like a great product! I'd buy it, though not for $20 EDIT: And there is no Send via IR
Guest fozzie Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Some things I really like already: Send To - this is very powerful. So quick to setup shortcuts and for file manipulation. Zip file handling - Zip files displayed as folders that you can just browse in and out of. You can also now have shortcuts to folders on the start menu. Clicking on them will open up that folder in Resco Explorer. I've been after this for ages  (I have all my playlists in a folder so rather than have a shortcut to each playlist on the start menu, I now just need one to the folder that they are in) Edit: One tip that I think improves the layout of the explorer - go to Options, Browser and select 'Hide Folders'. That takes them out of the list pane. So, you can still see them in the tree pane at the top, but they then don't clutter up the folder listing in the bottom pane. If that makes any sense!
Guest fozzie Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 EDIT: And there is no Send via IR  But there's a receive by IR!?
Guest looeee Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 The Windows Shell Extension is incredible This is a top piece of software
Guest Gorskar Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Looks good. I've a feeling we have already seen this as news (could be wrong) but it was missing from the software catalogue, so I fixed that  Thanks!
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 The Resco buy link is a virtual Handango store, which means you can use plus discount, which is cool. That brings the price down to $18, which still strikes me as a little expensive for a file explorer (although it has a number of great functions, I can imagine SmartExplorer will catch up!) P
Guest fozzie Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 "]That brings the price down to $18, which still strikes me as a little expensive for a file explorer..... ...and a registry editor with import and export facilities ...and a file/image viewer Would prefer it to be cheaper though
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 And don't forget the File Encryption  I really like the idea of being able to password files so only I can open them 8) Agree, it's still too dear, but I'm tempted.
Guest madu Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 IMPORT registry files?? Are you sure it works?? As far as I know it is an OS bug/omission that importing reg files is NOT possible. Have I missed something??
Guest vijay555 Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Paul, go to work on Resco with a baseball bat and get them down to $10-15 and we'll talk business  Lot's of functionality i think, but expensive for this platform. But i suppose the regediter/viewer etc help the price a bit. Nice to see SPV going from strength to strength (damn you Slashdotters :D) V
Guest fozzie Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 IMPORT registry files??Yep. Are you sure it works?? No idea and I don't want to be the first to try it :D As far as I know it is an OS bug/omission that importing reg files is NOT possible. That may be the case but is it possible that Resco are 'doing their own thing' for registry exports and imports but still calling it .reg file?
Guest Will Posted June 4, 2003 Report Posted June 4, 2003 Hmm if you can import reg files, and this application is signed.... Oh i'll download the demo! Will
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 The manual available for download here has been updated, and is now the correct one for Smartphones
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 A nice touch I've only just noticed, is that, once this is installed (on your PC) there's then an option to "Right Click & send to My Device" You then browse to wherever you want the file(s) to end up on the phone or the card, and click send. 8)

Guest gpcarreon (MVP) Posted June 19, 2004 Report Posted June 19, 2004 guys, help!!! an error occured when i clicked the reg files.. REGISTRY MODULE NOT FOUND. what do i do? help me guys... You want to import *.reg files right? You cant do that with the latest version of RESCO Explorer. The old version (4.11) has a registry module and supports .reg export/import.
Guest lukeap69 Posted August 13, 2004 Report Posted August 13, 2004 Where can we get the old version?
