I'm quite new to the world of spv but have got into it very fast. i plan to make an effort to help the SPV community. How? A new website. i plan to make a website (i have already purchased the domain and hosting, just waiting for it to come through) and i'd basically like to know what people would like to see on it. i will be making it attractive, easy to read and navigate. i will also include a forum, dont know how much use it will get (this one is too good!). what else would you guys like to see? downloads? tips? faq? articles? chat? games? utilities? links? themes? sounds? backgrounds? anything else? please give as much input as possible and i will do all i can to meet your needs, afterall whats the point in a site if it hasnt got the things you want on it? i plan to make it a place where there is a bit of everything but i cant do that without knowing what people want? cheers.

What I think would be good would be a developers area, or a place to help out those who would like to be developers. Heaven knows I'd like to learn how to program some of this stuff on the SPV, but have NO idea how.

Yeh, a developers area could definately be encorporated into it. just a forum is all very well but i could maybe even assign an area for developers to upload their stuff to so others could download it. maybe? we'll see. cheers for the suggestion. any others?

Firstly I wish you all the best with this site...

Beware tho, unless it's something 'completely different' you'll have a hard job getting it started, and if you plan to take content from elsewhere, ensure you contact the site owners for permission.

And if it's a forum based site, similar to this, ASK PAUL for permission to publish the url or info on here.

Linking to other forums without permission is not permitted

i recommend you don't make it a forum as it won't get anywhere, everyone will stick to modaco. as will said it has to be unique.

Cheers for the advice mate. its not gonna be soley a forum site but a forum may be encorporated in the site as a whole. i dont intend to start anything completely different. just to bring all the things people want into one easy to access place. thats the idea anyway! i'll bear in mind all the things about copying as i think i will be adding many articles to help people so these will probably be written by other people. the site will peobably be up in the next week or so, ill keep you posted.

You are not the first to get that idea. There are like 10 other sites with the same 'lets have all smartphone stuff here' theme...

Look here for a good idea how many sites there are: http://www.monolithix.org/spv_links.html

Lol, yeh i guess you've got a point but hey...mebbe mine will be better? easier to navigate, more content more updates, more support. that's what im aiming for. and anyway, from my experience there isnt anywhere near enough good spv sites or smartfone sites on the net. i have also noticed that certain sites will not have everything. they will have a lot of news but few downloads, etc.

Thanks for pointing that out ajb!! There are going to be some pretty big shoes to fill, but don't be discouraged, your site will be great I'm sure. Another good thing is to put all the announcments for smartphones and what not all in one place. There's a lot of information out there, and I find that I'm going from site to site trying to find it all. It'd be great if it could all be compiled at one place. I think the difficulty is to siphon all the speculation from the facts. Just another idea.

Yeh, thanks for the encouragement. that what i'm aiming at, everything you need in one place. the site is coming along just nicely at the moment. expect it to be up in the next week definately, probably on the weekend. it wont b amazing to start with but if i get enough interest i'll put the time in to improve it so it will, im sure be good. best get working again then. cheers again.

The new sites structure is finished and the content has started going up. there's a few downloads up there, an article and some other stuff. There are no forums on the site anymore (happy Paul  ) as i am not allowed to link to another forum site. If you would like to let me know about any problems with the site then please dont hesitate to contact me, by pm on this site or my site(if you choose to sign up) or by emailing me at [email protected] . Now please feel free to visit the new site at www.spvhome.co.uk and let me know what you think!! cheers!

Hey, glad you like it. Do you think i should add a drab of colour to it? or do you like the monochrome look?

Guest nobznss

You know, I do like the grey look of it, but you can kinda stick with that theme and maybe add greyish blues or something like that to kinda spice it up a little.

Guest Rustyk1

yeh, greyish blues sound good. hmm...have to work on that at the weekend. anyoneone got any ideas of how to drum up some more interest?

Guest Rustyk1

I like the new look. You know who you may talk to? Talk to the admin over at CoolSmartPhones.com. I bet he'd have a TON of ways to help you out.

I like it - good work. If your going concentrate on loads of games and demos then colour is great but l like the fact that you've kept is serious and stayed away from anything that would distract too much from the content. I spend quite a lot of time on MoDaCo and don't even think about the background which is how it should be. For your purpose, maybe a liitle colour but not too much.

I think your right to lose the forum and this has nothing to do with MoDaCo. I can name plenty of forums on much bigger and well established sites that haven't really taken off.

I am sure that you will get all the support you need from MoDaCo members as we are always looking for new ways to support the SPV/Smartphone. So good luck.

For my bit, I would like to see a site which acted like a database storing all those procedures and settings that get lost over time and where I could find anything I wanted in a couple of clicks, no matter how old it was. This would work for anyone smartphone user on any network. I'll Dream on

I take it all back. What have you done to www.spvhome.co.uk colour.

It's gone a bit John Major style

nice site Rustyk1

although the text is a bit small (i think it might just be because of the contrast to the modaco text which we see before visiting yours) Just 1 thing to mention, whenever a page loads i get a

'runtime error has occured do you wish to debug? Line 361 error Access is denied'

(i have the .net dev software which goes crazy for this stuff) its probably because im not signed in but you might wanna check it out

best of luck!
