I have not been able to get a GPRS connection since Sunday. I have phoned 156 numerous times, and they have all tried different things with no success.

On Sunday I was told it was a network wide problem, and it would be resolved quick. On Monday still nothing so they started going through the following:

take battery off while phone still on, and leave for 1 minute (then 5 mins)

input DNS settings

remove GPRS from account, then put it back on again

numerous settings checks.

I have not been out of the area I am in, so can not rule out a transmitter problem, and as I do not know anyone else with Orange GPRS I can not confirm this.

If anyone has any ideas please let me know, as Orange seem to be baffled by it!!

Thanks.

Pete.

Another good example of why there is so much disatisfaction at the price of gprs!!

phdutton -

Unfortunately m8 - apart from settings, there's not much you can do to make your gprs work. Some minor problems get a temporary fix by soft resetting the phone, or turning radio on/off. In extreme cases a hard reset sometimes has been known to work.

Dunno if any of this will work for you tho! I had a complete loss of gprs a while ago - just said 'unable to place call..' no matter what I did. I ended up getting a new handset!

Make noise with Orange CS if you still can't get any gprs - especially after hard reset as that will return the phone to an 'out of box' state. After hard reset, you will have to put in your gprs settings again. If that doesn't work tho, then your phone may be knackered - so they will owe you a new one!!

GPRS probs at the mo seem to be more caused by the network rather than the handset.

The answer seems to be to remain patient  and keep trying it. Turning off and on can help in some cases. Never heard of a hard reset helping though.....

Another wonderful inconsistency. :D

I am just getting 'can not find page' or something like that!

I spoke to someone on 156 today who actaully appear to know what they were on about, who said they have been getting on and off problems with GPRS since Friday, and at the moment there are a few hundred thousand who can not get any GPRS!

In responce to drblow: I do no want a new phone! Apart from the lack of GPRS at the moment I am happy with the one I've got!!

The trouble is I use the GPRS through my computer for an internet connection (I am at university, in halls which do not have a net connection in the rooms), and now they have launched another free GPRS thing for another 3 months it covers me for free internet well beyond my graduation here, if only it would work!!

i had that problem for 5 days from last friday but it is now working fine!

all i did was change my settings to use my dial-up to access then i could see the modaco site, then when i chnaged it back to GPRS connection it connected fine?!? though i dont know if that procedure actually fixed it or if it fixed itself.

I changed no settings on my phone but had this GPRS problem from midday saturday until tuesday.

After tuesday it started working again, with no changes (or even reboot) of my phone. It is definitely a network problem of some kind.

I also find that when I am at Canary Wharf it ALWAYS fails to get past dialing where as it often works when I am anywhere else.

The whole GPRS thing just isn't robust and useable enough and that makes it a lot more difficult for me to justify paying the high charges.

had the same problem from wed last week to tues this week, just in Leeds - on sun I cycled up to skipton and it connected fine, got back to leeds and no joy. Been working fine since tues though, I put it down to network problems. Pissed me off big time, and not the first time either!
