Hi...

I have a problem with the VirtualDub.. When I try to convert a movie it comes up with a box with this text..

"VirtualDub has detected an improber VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compability. This may introduce up to 16379 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the "entire" audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder. (bitrate 154,8 + 19,2 kbps)"

What should I do??

IIRC, there's a particular mp3 encoder (Fraunhofer IIS?) which is "lazy" and doesn't write mp3 headers correctly, and this may confuse VirtualDub. What that message is saying is VirtualDub will assume the audio track is encoded using CBR (constant bitrate) instead of VBR (variable bitrate) which might mean the audio becomes out of sync with the video. Have you tried encoding it anyway to see what happens - it might work ok? If not then extract the mp3 audio from the video using a program other than VirtualDub (to a .wav file), and then encode the avi again, using the wav file as the audio source.

I have tried to encode it anyway, but then a error box comes up and says that it can't be encoded...

But i'll try your method, thanks...

SO... who was "encouraging piracy?" That forum doesn't tell you "where to get stuff", or "how"... it just has one thread that says what's currently out there (not how to get it.) I can understand your blocking references to sites like the notorious Russian FOSI site - which provides DIRECT links to pirate software... but the forum I commended does not. Mainly, it concerns itself with problems related to burning CD's, and converting between video formats. Certainly many of the issues arise because people are having problems burning AVI files "of questionable origin" - but only AFTER the piracy has already been committed. If I wanted to download "Rocky XXVII", I'd not head to a forum to find a link - I'd use the "search" facility within any of the many filesharing programs on offer. A court case - as recent as last week - found that filesharing isn't illegal per se. It might very easily be argued that the forum I commended was no more promoting "illegal activity" than Modaco's own instructions on how to unlock an SPV (an SPV, note that remains the property of the telco until the contract expires - and NO UK contract HAS yet expired) or how to circumvent the software lock.

Let's be a little less trigger happy, eh?

As explained in the PM

The forum you gave referance for was actively promoting piracy, there were posts recommending

the best locations to download full films and games, also there were many posts asking for serial numbers

to games etc and replied to by sayiing numbers would not be posted but expect to receive them via email.

Also concerning file sharing, how many people who use files sharing really only use it for freeware as file sharing may not be ilegal, but using the file after is another matter

At the end of the day the rules are clearly laid out about the piracy and promoting of such on this site.

so Trigger happy? I don't think so as I look look at the site first before deciding to remove the link and as you yourself said it's a parking ground for a certain p2p network.
