Guest nickcornaglia Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 I was wondering if anyone here has discontinued their landline service and only use their mobile phone service as their primary telephone. I barely use my home phone and now use cable broadband for internet so the home phone is useless except for the 20 Telemarketer calls I get per day. Any benefits or disadvantages to doing this that you can think of???
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 I only use my landline phone in the day (peak minutes on Orange are extortionate by comparison) as these don't come out of my free tarriff minutes. Other than that i get 550 free minutes off peak a month so barely use my landline
Guest vijay555 Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 Good insurance in case phone gets buggered, but true, i barely use my landline, except when the brain-frying sensation of the mobile is being missed. In the old days when i was at Uni, we used to use a Calling Card service which was almost as cheap to use as landline, and was accessed thru 0800 number. (And obviously stoopidly cheap for long distance) Then we didn't need landline at all. Sigh, happy days. No i'm on PAYG, and i'm sad. V
Guest Rob.P Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 Couldn't live without a landline, as someone said good insurance, that and ADSL.
Guest vijay555 Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 Yeah, forgot about that, ADSL. NTL's doing a good deal with broadband and flat rate landline for about 30 squid. quite good. Mono, what tariff are you on? OVP or standard? Must cost quite a bit.. V
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 OVP O2 Leasure Plus £20/month gets you 500 landline/50 xnet (all off peak) mins including Voicemail and 100 SMS. Not too bad i thought.
Guest madu Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 Damn ADSL, I'd cancel my landline altogether! arghh
Guest vijay555 Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 sigh, roll on wifi Mobile phones... digital bliss. Irradiated testes all round. Anyone seen that Futurama where fry makes a hole in space time continuum by microwaving foil-popcorn. With wifi, blutoof and GSM, we're going to be buzzing! V
Guest mores Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 i rarely use my landline. my girlfriend is the one using it, so that's why i still haven't cancelled it yet. internet = cable
Guest siu99spj Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Landine is used by others to call me, especially parents, grandparents and brother for the simple reason they find it so much cheaper to chat to me for hours on a landline. Its also what I use for my ADSL link (Don't ask why NTL can install to either house on either side of me but NOT me). With me making 99% of all my calls from my mobile, the last 1% split between office and home phone, I have no need for a landline and asked BT to give me the cheapest, simplest package on offer. For all that, I pay less than £25 a month for BT Line and 576K Broadband.
