Guest Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Everytime I sync the SPV to my PC I get the following message if there is no internet connection. The Network Connections message box opens and displays the message "You (or a program) have requested information from 207.46.249.222. Which connection do you wish to use" I cannot see any open programs nor have I ;to the best of my knowledge, asked for any information. Does anyone out there with far superior computing knowledge than me know what this means and how do I stop if from occurring? Thanks
Guest rogerbates Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Pain in the arse that is  I get the same thing as well, it is Active Sync apparently trying to contact Microsoft. I have let it dial a few times but it doesn't seem to do anything. At first I thought that it might get an update or something and then stop doing it. No such luck. What's worse is that if somehow you set it to dial automatically it will dial up the net itself and it won't necessarily dial your default connection either. I got an effing great phone bill about a month ago. I leave my phone charging sometimes in the day for a few hours and sometimes at night. The swine had only been dialling up a connection that I don't use anymore and that costs 5p a minute. So be careful of the settings if you decide to tamper with them. I have no idea how to stop it or change any of the settings. It seems to randomly change the settings itself and dial up ramdomly, usually when you have left the room!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 6, 2003 Report Posted June 6, 2003 Sure its not the SPV trying to use a passthrough connection?
Guest rogerbates Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 It could be but how do you stop it from doing that? I have managed to stop it automatically dialling, not from changing the settings but I think by pressing cancel everytime it did, now it asks me again before connecting. But I have looked at the pass through settings and they are set to Internet and the only other option is work. There doesn't seem to be any options about automatically dialling. What happens when it is on the pass through thing? When I have let it connect it does nothing on the SPV or on my PC. It just connects and that is it. I know it sounds stupid but I hate leaving the SPV in the cradle unattended now because of this problem, every few hours or so it seem to try and connect. I have to charge it with the adapter.
Guest MM Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 Hi there. I have the same problem, everytime I connect my phone to the cradle, I get the message " you or a program is asking for informations from microsoft.com" if i let it connect, it seems that nothing is happend. I really would like to disconnect this.
Guest rogerbates Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 I never really found a solution, I downloaded the latest version of ActiveSync and it didn't seem to do it anymore. I can't be sure though as I now have Broadband so probably wouldn't know if it tried to connect! Another option is a Firewall at least that would stop it from just dialling when it felt like it, Zone Alarm is a free one. That would stop you getting up in the morning and seeing Time Connected 4 hours 17 minutes like I used to! If there are any settings on the phone or in ActiveSync on the PC to stop it I couldn't find them. Even when I set up my Internet options on my PC to Never Dial a Connection in Internet Explorer the swine still dialled anyway. Sorry that I couldn't be more help.
Guest ivor biggun Posted January 29, 2004 Report Posted January 29, 2004 I also have a active sync problem, i ran active sync fine with my spv and also when i first got my mpx untill i got a new a new pc, i installed the latest version of it and as soon i plug my phone in it connects to my broadband connection but never actually opens a webpage :?: Ive fiddled with all the settings in active sync and my phone as well as trying different versions of active sync but it wont stop!!! :x :x :x
Guest monkeygadge Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 I posted this problem ages ago here http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=1074...7412&highlight= you could try the suggestions here. I have never been able to stop it wanting to connect. It's definately active sync that causes the problem. I have tried changing settings in outlook etc and cannot get it to stop. It will NOT let me sync the phone without conncecting to the net unless I press cancel on my dial up about 50 times! Notice that as activesync starts, before it says "looking for changes" it always says "connecting" first. This is the only thing that I now hate about my smartphone - it drives me mad!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 I've never seen this in all the time I have had a Smartphone :? and used 3.6 3.17 and 3.71 versions of Activsync. The looking for changes and connecting is Activsync saying it is establishing it's handshake between the phone and the PC.
