have you ever

..left your computer on whilst away/out?

..wanted to turn your computer off when downstairs?

Well, late last night, after a few , I was on download.com and came across this interesting piece of s/w.. http://download.com.com/3000-2344-10154101...tml?tag=lst-0-1

What does it do? well, the main idea is that you can schedule your pc to turn off at a certain time.. however this piece of s/w has a remote control web interface.. so what you might ask.. well, after a little tweaking of the web interface (it allows you to edit the html page which is available over the web interface, I made it "SPV-Friendly"..

So what does this mean? It basically means you can:

Shutdown

Restart

Logoff current user

Lock workstation

Hangup current dial up connection*

Put the computer into standby mode

Put the computer into hibernate mode

Send a message to the User on the computer

*I have removed this from my menu, as I have broadband.. however I think this is only really an option for people with broadband as it means the IP is "static"

So, how to install...

1. Download the program:

http://download.com.com/3000-2344-10154101...tml?tag=lst-0-1

2. Install

3. Click Options>Remote Control

4. Enable Web Interface (on a port of your choice)

n.b. i've not tried it with a user/pass yet

5. Click View/Edit interface files

6. Make a backup of the Index file (incase you want to make your own template)

7. Replace it with the index.htm file with this one..

8. Make a favourite in IE on your SPV, something like: http://:, eg. mine is http://213.***.***.**:8001

Check out the screenshot..

It works really nicely.. not sure if any of you will find it as good as I do, however I thought I'd used this forum so much that it was about time I put something into it :D

Hope at least someone finds this worth reading!

i think that is a wicked little prog - far easier to use than winvnc (altho i havent really got to grips with winvnc yet)

On a similar vein, you might wanna use BrowseAmp plugin for winamp to remotely control winamp. can't see why you would, but you can

I use it when connected to cradle to keep a view of my playlist on the spv, so i can use the spv to control winamp.

edit the templates and .css file to make it fit into SPV nicely, and remove the refresh tag to make it manually refreshable.

not available for ver 3 tho.. can you edit the template (i assume you connect to the webserver of Broweamp?) so it too could be SPV friendly?

This would be fantastic, apart from the fact that i'm not gonna use GPRS again untill the costs come down.

I know quite a few peeps who use a PC with massive remote speakers as a jukebox at houseparties, but they have to run upstairs (to the pc) to change the track!

Ah the wonder of skipping the cheeky girls without having to get off your arse.

Why do you own any CD's with the Cheeky girls on it???

Note I said other people, not myself.

I hope they only downloaded it for comedy and didn't actually hand over money for it. That would worry me.

although downloading it would surely be (ahem) illegal !!!!

Yes, yes it would be. Those crazy kids nowerdays, I despair I really do.

thats what is bringing down the recording industry, that and the high price of Cds.

Bloody MP3 thingies and all that technology stuff

Yeah, whacha gonna do (bloody bring the price of music down! i'd use the Apple service if prices dropped to about 50p a track i think)

anyway, yeeah:browseamp kicks ass, and i think simple no graphic winamp pages won't eat a lot of gprs (couple of k max). i don't use gprs at all, but for novelty/necessity, it's quite great to control winamp completely remotely.

Im a bit confused HOW to get this to work. Ive downloaded the application. Installed it on my pc and run it. Ive entered a url to my IP/port.

The page cannot be found on the SPV E200. So I tried to install the application on the phone and it says its not a valid application!

Can anyone guide me a bit better on what to do?

EDIT - ive sorted it all out now and was a firewall/IP issue.

Works a treat!

I wonder if there are any other reasons to connect to your pc via your phone? Are there any other apps that allow you more interaction?

Here is the original HTML but it is the same file that I have just downloaded from the first post!

Just rename the file extension to .htm and it should work!
