I read somewhere in this forum that the battery on the SPV has a finite number of charges before the battery will need to be replaced.

I have a USB cable that also charges the phone from my laptop, does this mean that every time I plug my phone into the laptop to Activesync that I am reducing the lifespan of the battery because it will get a bit of a charge while its plugged in ?

nah, dunno where you read that, but the battery should easily last the amount of time you have the phone, no matter how many times you charge it

Thanks midnight

Can't remember where I read it now. Could have sworn it was on this site but I can't find it now, so it may have been on some other site, but it sort of implied that you could only get about 350 charges per battery before you have to replace it.

It does say in the Orange handbook that the battery has a limited lifespan and that they reccomend that your purchase a new one every year.

yeh, thats normal, all handset manuals say that hehe, even my old nokia, which lasted me 3 years with the same battery

As Midnight said, they put the recommendation to replace the battery every year in most phone manuals just to cover their backs.

It used to be a problem with older battery technology that would suffer from the "memory effect" (where you needed to completely discharge the battery before charging, otherwise the battery wouldn't fully charge properly).

This was a big problem with Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd) batteries, was still a problem (but less so) with Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH), and is not really an issue with Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) batteries that the SPV uses.

Yes, all rechargeable batteries have a limited life, but by the time it conks out you will probably have moved onto another handset!
