Guest Paul [MVP] Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 PDA Utilities have released Remote Desktop for SmartPhone. You can buy it for $9.99 at the PDAUtilties site. The software claims to allow you to 'Control your desktop PC with your Smartphone when you are away.' P
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Has anyone tried the demo, and actually got it to work :?: All I seem to get is "Error Could not connect to server!" Cheers Simon
Guest James Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 also it does not install on the storage card properly! puts the shortcut on the storage card insted of the IPSM dir.
Guest James Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 right!!!! i have got it to work! you have to go into active sync and choose 'connection settings' and tick the box 'allow network and remote access' wow! you have to be connected with active sync to another computer?!?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Is it any good? What about over GPRS? P
Guest James Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 first, because its the demo i only got to do zoom twice, pan about for about 5 seconds and 2 mouse clicks and thats it! now it wont do anything and sits there saying 'This is a demo version!' so i cant really give it a propper review. Very VERY easy to set up and use but i do think you have to be plugged into another computer using active sync to get the thing to work, not sure what it uses to connect? internet or network connection? but i was connected to on my local computer using its IP. its quite slow but not over slow, that is expected. It really does control your computer! very good res screen of the computer being controled and very good tools. Pan/Zoom/mouse.
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Same here :?: I want it to work over GPRS though, I can't see any point in doing it with Active Sync :?:
Guest XGEOX Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 hmm - i think ive got it to work - you have to make sure a gprs connection is already active or you'll get the 'Error Could not connect to server' problem... ..i did this just by opening ie and going to the orange site. the trouble is it's really too sluggish to be of any use  plus the demo version i got wont allow you to click on anything :D - only scroll around the screen... EDIT: i also got another different error when trying to use gprs a couple of times - something like 'network error' - i cant find it now because the demo appears to have locked up and wont let me use it again
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 If you use a Task Manager, go to processes, and "Kill the Process" it will let you log in again and have another play.
Guest James Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 plus the demo version i got wont allow you to click on anything  - only scroll around the screen... yes it does! but i only used it twice.
Guest James Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 anyone find the reg values so i can delete and have another go?
Guest XGEOX Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 yes it does! but i only used it twice. well that aint very good is it? - lol we can hardly see how good/bad the program is by clicking twice - surely they'd use some sense and have a trial period or '5 uses' or something instead of a limit of two clicks? ps - thx about the task manager - im downloading it now
Guest James Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 ooops! sory did not see simon's post aboveooops! sory did not see simon's post above
Guest James Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 well that aint very good is it? - lol we can hardly see how good/bad the program is by clicking twice - surely they'd use some sense and have a trial period or '5 uses' or something instead of a limit of two clicks? ps - thx about the http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=7065>Task Manager - im downloading it now  just had another go! lots of clicks! it seems to be time limited (2 mins or somthing) just close the process in task manager as in simon's post above.
Guest XGEOX Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 =) - cool, thx m8... ...i still think it's too slow to be of any use though
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Any one got it working over GPRS :?: Otherwise, I think I'll save my money and use my computer's mouse and keyboard (seeing as you've got to be sat in front of it and connected with a lead to get it to work  :?: )
Guest James Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 i think it is trying to work over GPRS but i am getting 'network error'. maybe because i am behind a router?
Guest James Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 what would be good is running a (modified) server on another SPV??!!!! hummmm........
Guest Maverick Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Isnt there a freeware version !! Smart VNC ?? Why do we have to buy this one?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Won't work without port redirection if you're behind a router. Think i'll download it when i get home and have a play.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 OK, got the demo working over GPRS (and through my router ), impressive, as long as you don't mind insane GPRS bills. Works well though, nice crisp., high qualiity images, all taking ~15-20 secs to load :/ Think i'll drop my res to 800x600 next time...
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Mono, any tips on how to get it working over GPRS  Please
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 As has already been said, just make sure you already have an open GPRS session. Then punch in your ip address (assuming you have no firewalls/routers in between) and log in. Make sure you add a user on the server daemon first.
Guest James Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 shame i work in hi res! (very) how much faster on a low res setting you think!
