Guest NederSoren Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 I dont know if this has bin posted before.. I've just noticed that many new smartphone users have a problem to find out if the file is .zip or .cab.. so thats why I'm posting this little guide: 1. Open WinZip 2. Click 'Option' and pick 'Configuration' 3. Click 'System' and then click the button 'Associations...' 4. Press the little 'v' infront of .CAB (CabView)' so it disapiers 5. Click 'Ok' and 'Ok' in the next window. All your .cab should now be showen as small cabinets (:cab ) and it should be very easy to figure out if it is .zip or .cab your dealing with.. :D //NederSoren
Guest madu Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 Cool NederSoren, now just bump this topic up once in a while.... hehe
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 or just make it a sticky for awhile
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 9, 2003 Report Posted June 9, 2003 .cab's are something completely different (still archive files) in normal Windows, hence WinZip associating with them. This is a nice tip for all users running WinME/2k or about though
Guest Trancedancer Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 Hi! I am a beginner with Smartphones...how do I install .cab-files to my Smartphone? *HENRIK*
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 Hey Place the cab file on your phone via ActiveSync. Then run the cab file from your phone via Smart Explorer (or whichever file-explorer program you use).
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 Or if you don't have a File Explorer place the .cab in IPSMWindowsStart MenuAccessories then on the phone when you go to ProgramsAccessories the cab will be there ready for you to select it to install.
Guest mike_secco Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 im new aswell just got my qtek. How do i install zip games? are they the same as installing cab files?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 You need to unzip any zip files you have. .exe's will run straight of other box on your phone, .cab's will have to be installed.
Guest Matt Kirby Posted October 25, 2003 Report Posted October 25, 2003 This is a bit cheeky of me to mention this here (hijacking a thread and cross-posting to promote my own software! :) ), but I have just released a program that helps with installing cabs. Once installed you can right click on a cab file to copy it to the SPV and then start the installation. More info in http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=94921>this thread.

Guest madmaxedcn Posted July 8, 2004 Report Posted July 8, 2004 IM HAVING TROUBLE INSTALING THE CAB FILE...FOLLOW ALL THE INSTR. ALL THAT COMES UP IS THE XML DOCUMENT IN IPSMWindowsStart Menu..WHEN I RUN IT ALL THAT COMES UP IOS INTERNET EXPLORER AND ALL THE CODE..
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 8, 2004 Report Posted July 8, 2004 Please do not shout (turn your caps off) As explained in your other post, do not unzip the cab file only unzipping it will shouw an xml file. Place the cab in IPSMWindowsStart MenuAccessories then on your phone go to ProgramsAccessories and run the cab you have just placed there.
