Just seen this

Not checked if it's "true" though?

[Edit by Paul, well spotted Simon!]

What Cellphone news article:

Orange today released the upgraded version of the SPV Microsoft Windows Powered smartphone, the SPV E100.

It builds on the the ‘Sound, Pictures, Video’ functionality of the previous incarnation by adding a larger, easier to operate keypad and an improved colour display, and now comes with a roll-up, plug in QWERTY keyboard for easier data input and email typing.

The SPV E100 has an impressive range of features onboard, including photo messaging capability, internet browsing, the ability to download, store and watch video and audio clips, email connectivity plus a good range of gaming facilities. It also synchs neatly with other familiar Microsoft applications, while Orange provides a service called Orange Backup which can be used to store information and personal data in the handset onto the Orange network in case the handset is lost. Orange Update provides a feature to help customers update their SPVs with the latest applications over the air.

The SPV E100 is expected to sell for £200 with Orange airtime contract. For the first month Orange is offering a free Time Out City Guide memory card (normally worth £29.99) which provides illustrated city guides for top European cities.

Official line from Orange, from a source 100% in the know...

THIS REPORT IS INCORRECT!

What is interesting is to see the mention of the keyboard included, and the time out software which is new info to me?

Of course, this is unconfirmed also, since O are yet to officially announce the product!

Paul,

Orange WILL ship free keyboards with the spv

(not sure about the spvx) soon. It is very likely the SPVx will come with this keyboard too. As for the software, I cant confirm that.

Now who wants to mail What Cellphone and tell them that they're wrong?

On coolsmartphone.com, Gears says that a contact at Orange says it will be out at the end of July :?:

Apparently the SPV E100 (Tanager) is now out on Orange (SHOCK!) Click here for further info. Steve Gannon managed to contact Orange, who told him that it will be in their shops end of July 2003 - this almost ties in with our earlier story, which stated a date of June 22nd."

Probably be just in time for Christmas then

Will the E100 still be software locked?

Is the drive to sell-off existing SPV's restricted to Bristol? They've taken a quarter page in the local paper (Wednesday) to say that they've got "demonstrators" in the shopping centre on Thursday - Saturday. Looks like a sales drive - and the advert doesn't specify anyone like Carphone Warehouse or The Link - just Orange. Given that the website claims that they're out of stock of SPV's (and the advert was 100% SPV specific) a big sales push right now looks distinctly odd.

Ron, I picked up this leaflet in"The Link" last week, so it seems they've been holding "demonstrations" for a while.

(Just noticed in the small print, if you sign up before 14th June you get 2 free games:- Snails and Tennis Addict)

Thanks! The question still arises (I note that - although you picked up the leaflet in "The Link", the only brand name mentioned is Orange) why Orange are "demonstrating" a product when they seem to be out of stock. Normally, you'd spend money on a sales drive like this when you've got some to sell, surely? In the trade, this is called "OLAF". (Only Orange-employed readers will understand that joke!)

How does demonstrating "old" MK1 SPV's in my local highsteet "help to iron out bugs" with the SPVx/Tanager?

Unless, of course, Sendo have sent a gopher off to Prague to buy a Tanager, have taken the lid off and welcomed back to the fold a piece of circuitry onwhich they hold the patent. In which case, the "July" part might be correct, but not necessarily July 2003.

If anyone from Sendo needs someone to pop over to Prague for the day at their expense... I'm volunteering. I LIKE Prague; there used to be a great little restaurant on the banks of the Vltava river, midway between the Charles Bridge and the National theatre, which specialised in game.

(Well, every cloud has a silver lining... and why shouldn't my dining at a good restaurant be the silver lining?!)

LoL
