Guest J273 Posted June 11, 2003 Report Posted June 11, 2003 I wont to install the smart update to my UK spv but before i do is their anything that i should back up first and when the new UK orange update comes out is it just a matter of installing that over the smart Update. Thanks
Guest SirGaz Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 When you say smart update I assume you mean the update for the phone that's been out a little while? If so then it retains all your info whn you update, so there shouldn't be any need to backup. However, it may be a good idea to do an IPSM backup from the canary screens to a spare SD card if you have one. If not, then just make sure you keep copies of any installation files, save game files etc just in case. Contacts can be re-sync'd with Outlook so no problems there. Like I said, it shouldn't delete any info anyway
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 SirGaz I think he means the one from the Smart network in the Philippines, as for the questions I'm unsure as I have not tried running the update myself. Some updates will wipe the phone and start from scratch. As for applying a UK update after that is unknown at the moment. :? Also don't forget the newer UK updates do not give you the option to save IPSM as it has been disabled from the menu.
Guest J273 Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Yeah i mean the smart update from the Philippines
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 It's also not advisable to apply updates from other countries. Each carrier ROM versoin is tweaked specifically for their networks.
Guest J273 Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 So if i was to install the smart update over the top of my current rom version (1.3.5.6) and then decided i dident want it anymore would i just be able to install the 1.3.5.6 update over the top of the smart update,Also what are the differences between the versions, ive heard that it speeds the phone up,Thanks
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 I would wait if I were you! England is spose to get an update real soon! (of course that could take longer than what normal people consider 'real soon') But I don't believe that the 'speed' boost is worth the 'pain' and effort of installing an update that wasn't meant for you country! There are lots of little speed boost, tweaks and settings, that will make your phone a lil bit faster, and wont do potential harm!
Guest J273 Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 Ok Thanks i might wait then for the Uk update if the speed of the menus havent increased that much any idea when the new uk update will be out
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 There isn't a massive increase from what i've heard in the Smart update. Theres also no guarantee you'll be able to update with the next UK version (think applying UK update after applying DK1).
Guest J273 Posted June 16, 2003 Report Posted June 16, 2003 Just installed the smart update and i think its great much faster just what i wanted but havent installed any apps yet so may slow down but could anyone tell me what is needed to be changed to work in the uk like action backup and action update and anything else that needs changing,Thanks J273
