Guest MadForIt Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Can anyone shed some light on what will be out later in the year after Tanager for the SPV roadmap? I am thinking of upgrading, and anthought the Tanager / E100 looks attractive (trying to hold off), I'd like to get some info, preliminary as it may be, as to that comes just after. I know it is supposed to have an integrated camera in it, and that the Spartphone 2003 OS won't be out until 2004 (!) , but I'd like to get some sort of insight into anything further than that. I guess there will be bluetooth support, but anyone any ideas about upgrades in terms of software or hardware? Thanks
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 After the Tan we're looking at getting the Mitac Mio in Europe and (hopefully) the Samsung i600 in the States. Both running 200mHz Intel XScale CPU's and MS SP2002. The planned "roadmap" according to an MS .NET bloke i've chatted with was for SP2003 to be released to carriers early May (which is was) and for it to be made available on handsets and upgrades in time for the Xmas increase in sales. SP2002 is unlikely to be further developed much more imho. So don't expect to be using BT and WiFi on your SPV unless Orange release a SP2003 ORM update.
Guest MadForIt Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 I don't really like to the look of the Mitac or the i600, and I'm not that fussed about wireless connectivity, so am I better off waiting for the integrated camera (I take it the rf will not be drmatically improved, or will there be a hardware overhaul of the tanager) or just grabbing the tanager? Maybe I'll wait for the price to drop from £200; a bit cheeky I think seeing as the SVP is (was) free / £30... Wonder what goodies will be in Magneto? Thanks anyway...
