Guest FunkyMagic Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Hi there, Could anybody tell me what is the actual difference beween powering down an SPV for a few seconds, and powering down an SPV, removing the battery and firing up again after a few seconds? Does it 'do' anything? Reason I ask is that my GPRS hasn't connected at all over the last 3 days (just does Dialling... and then times out) - I've tried to power-off/power-on a few times to no avail but doing a 'battery removal' recycle seem to cure the problem  . I'm curious? Is it the equivalent of hitting the soft-reset indented button on a PocketPC or something? ALSO - how to lock up GPRS - attempt to sync email, and then whilst its recvng, press the hang up key a couple of times - you (or *I* at least!) can't connect again after that until you remove the battery. I tried this repeatedly 3 times. Regards, FunkyMagic...
Guest strathclydezero Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Removing the battery is the only way of doing a hardware reset of the GPRS modem.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 Funky, you still getting this problem? - I've had this since I bought the phone (1 month) and I'm not getting ANYWHERE with technical support. One thing I have noticed is that turning the radio off/on achieves much the same thing - lemme know if it does for you.
Guest Will Posted June 12, 2003 Report Posted June 12, 2003 First : moving to Help and Advice. : the take the phone battery off for xxx seconds, seems to be a favourite way for OCS to say 'Sorry mate, haven't got a clue what to do next'. : It seems to work, in the same way that doing a reset on a pc and shutting down and restarting are different, in the way the bootloader is used. Will As to the GPRS problems you are having, it could be linked to your closest cellsite? as it happens intermittently to me in one particular location.
Guest FunkyMagic Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 GPRS - Nah - it generally works fine for me - UNLESS I elect to download complete emails and its too big and I get bored and hit RED. I just sent myself a big email, synced email headers, selected to download it, hung up and locked up GPRS. Turning the radio on/off seemed to do the same as the battery removal and fix it again. Its an easy problem to avoid tho - I don't have any real problem with GPRS (except this one) - except for the speed - but I only really use it for downloading email anyway. I occasionally can't connect - but I usually put that down to the current state of the cell - waiting 20 minutes and trying again tends to work for me. And the price - pah, its only money - and Orange do the cheapest GPRS of any carrier - I'm a pretty happy customer! What galls me is that 156 didn't get my GPRS working again - it was a search of this forum that did. I don't like the new voice menus you get on the IVR frontend to 156 either (IVR/Speech Recognition is my day job) - if I've selected a 'I've got an SPV' option - I don't need to be asked again do I? Nigel...
